I finally bothered to install adblock and now the in-thread ads are gone. So is the banner at the top of every page, and so are the ads on the right side. None of which bothered me. Future Pub FAIL.

My last post before I'm off the site for good today...:)

I installed firefox and just now did adblock plus which has wiped out the 'outbrain' cr*p and all the ads as well. ;)

see ya'all on twitter later today tomorrow! and kudos to dim for his work in progress....

how many regular posters are there here.. maybe 100.. 200...?

Regular posters are posting, readers are clicking on ads as well as forum topics.

Your main objection seems to be the ad suggesting you date within your age range. Don't take It personally, it's just an add:D

Yeah... but they're placed pretty annoyingly.

Let's just imagine all these ads came from a normal poster. I'd say all this spamming (with a lot of inappropriate content) would result in a ban... rather soon...

Honestly; if it was possible to use the Ignore feature on them (not downloading some ad-blocker) I'd be cool...

i think its about a bit more than the ads. The fact that the unpaid workers who keep this forum afloat werent warned in advance about them. And then they cant even respond to the issue

The forum is that unimportant to them that they are willing to fill it with as many adverts as you see on a warez site, and more than you see on most bittorrent sites. The fact they are having to use multiple agencies as they are beyond what google ads allow per page..

besides nothing ever happens on a monday. :D

while I understand there is more to it and I do feel bad for the mods here (IMO gotta be crazy to volunteer for such a job), I refuse to take cn more seriously then what it is. CN owe me nothing, and i owe them nothing. This place for me is a fun place to discuss cycling, whilst I understand the disrespect going on I'm not gonna get myself upset over it, I wont take this place more serious then need be. For me, it is what it is.

Of course i understand why some might feel strongly to boycott this place, and respect thier decision to do so.

I find it ironic that the signature lines of some of the 'protesters' is about the same size as the adverts they're complaining about. At least we only have to scroll past the adverts once per page.

I absolutely agree with you, people should stop putting a lot of long-winded chaff and padding in their sigs and take a leaf out of your book and put them in their posts instead.

As for myself being a long time adblock user I was unaware of the ads until this kerfuffle but I must say it seems a retrograde step to make your ads so intrusive that you prompt people to block all of them even the non-intrusive ones.

Just to let you know, we're going to move the ads further down so they're not under the first post on each page.

Also, we're going through and taking out 'offensive' 'soft-porn' 'mile-high', 'bikini-babe' ads individually.

Thanks for your patience.

I almost think you should put more stupider ads on the boards, hiding them with adblock is pretty easy and this place is so much nicer with fewer posters.

Is it really worth the few $$ you get to hack off so many good and regular members on here? The value of the forum is its content, and if you reduce the quality of the content, the value of the site goes down. Besides, so many of us are using Adblock on here now, what income is it bringing in? It's only a matter of time before the ad people get to understand that so many of the ads they're delivering aren't getting in front of eyes.

You already have a ton of relevant ads on the main website (I turned off Adblock to see them ;) ) so why litter the forum with irrelevant spam ads (and not just the soft porn ones, either)?

Anyway, it's your site, and you can do what you wish with it. Just trying to help you see it from our point of view. The danger is that a rival will start up, and all the good people will migrate over. Once you have a critical mass of quality posters somewhere else, this place will head into the doldrums (mixing cycling and sailing metaphors).

the boycott is 'byting'. the results so far:

the boardreader.com reports posting activity in road racing is down 4-fold:
from 743 on 14 jan to 184 yesterday. The results from the 16th not yet available.
http://boardreader.com/fp/CyclingNews_Forum_11718543/Professional_road_racing_11625029.html

the clinic is also stumbling:
13 jan - 218 posts, 14th - 131, 15th - 79.
http://boardreader.com/fp/CyclingNews_Forum_11718543/The_Clinic_11625285.html

given the value of my feedback, i believe i deserve leniency for violating the picket lines..:p:)

also, the mutiny leaders should suggest to the top ’nuclear scientists’ in the clinic (dr mas) and r. racing forum (the hitch) that they might (just might) pay attention to iran’s nuclear scientists…:p:)

Thats what I thought too.
Both should go away, or be reduced.
I have a ginger-red burned into my eyes, Giro awesomeness and Lance pee sprankled all over my face. :D

Benson said the ads will be moved down and selected for our prude Americans.
Thats a good start I would say.

I hope the posters will follow.
