I think it was the prostate ads that tipped me over the edge into installing AdBlock. As my prostate was removed just over six weeks ago (with another six to go before I'm allowed back on a bike), I just don't want to be reminded.

Others have said already, but get Chrome and get AdBlock and you can remove all trace of advertisement from CN (well, except for the paid product review coverage, but you weren't reading that anyway).

...good point...my post was really just a bit silly and done in haste and fueled by a bit of the frustration that a lot of folks here probably feel...

...and no I'm not blaming the mods...though there may be a time in the near future, if this issue doesn't get resolved, that things may get way past silly and then what...will the forum police come in swinging their batons cracking heads or do they follow another course and maybe join the mob after realizing all their hard and much appreciated work is done just to defend another greedy corporation who really doesn't give a rat$ a$$ about anything but the bottom line...

...we posters provide content that actually translates very nicely into CN's bottom line ( heck we are even content in news stories )...this site, without its special content, which we provide free of charge, is just another web page...and CN has managed to pi$$ all over it...

...and yeah we content providers don't have any real rights here but you know what, our content has value...and as such one would think it should be respected, if only a little, and not taken for granted...

...I feel like I've been f***ed and not even kissed...and that really doesn't feel that good...

Call it spam or not, it's rubbish for the volunteers (ie, yours truly) to haul out.

The thing is, I'm not entirely certain that Dan or those in the office know it's happened like this. I imagine it's part of an ad package, and this was somehow implemented into it. I do agree though, it's going to kill the forum, or get everyone using ad/script blockers, then the site's going to see a drop in click based revenue.

We live in broadband high speed age, not letters being sent off and waiting for the postie to bring the reply.

About time the CN owners put their head above the parapet on this and said it is gonna stay or it is gonna go.

I reckon they wont give a toss till the numbers drop in click revenue or the numbers of posts drop.

But a honest response is overdue.

The sad thing is that someone would have had to make a couple of edits to place the ads in the forum. They have time to do this but not time do things like upgrade the software, install an image resize mod or enable video embeds. Seems they are only intent on milking us dry, rather than improving our pasture.

I am glad CN is offering these useful ads that can open us up to all types of services out there we didn't know existed. I for one am so wrapped up in this place that I rarely venture out into the internets. When I am banned I just play xbox.

If it came to that, I suspect that many of them would decide that they volunteer their free time to help maintain a pleasant environment within the forum, not to defend the company's right to annoy us by dropping ads into our threads. I would imagine that a few mods would be 'hands off' for this particular problem.

Seriously CN, I know the dating ads bring more ppc than others, but its really not hard to log onto your adsense account and stop cheap dating ads from appearing.. Im now being offered Sexy Russians, which admittedly is a step up from the available mature woman in the previous one.
