Never mind that for now, first you need to know if enough posters are prepared to commit themselves to make this viable. Like I suggested, a good first step would be for all those willing to take part to adopt this avatar.

What's also needed is for people with this avatar to 'show their faces' in forums frequented by people who are unlikely to see this topic here. I'm thinking clinic, for example.

You beat me to it. I was just going to add that a time-stamp needs to be established as to just which 24 hour period it is.

Nah, I'm proposing from 0:00 Australian time untill 24:00 in Alaska

Hmm...

Maybe if some of the Aussies went in here + some others threads in which it wouldn't be seen as too spammy first thing in the morning of the 16. Or last thing in the evening of the 15. And wrote something like this:

Forum Boycut in Action Now

(And we all edited our sigs to state that)

And then, on the morning of the 17th the same person could go in a write a:

Boycut Over message.

(BTW, we don't have any Samoans, do we? Coz then they'd have to be the starters... I think...)

Dev. has as little to do with the situation as the mods do. Please don't blame the wrong people.

Susan

sorry.. i assumed that the site development team would have had a hand in the empoying of the new ads. I certainly dont blame any of the mods.. I think they are in an awful position.. :(

Guys...and gals, I really think it's putting the cart before the horse worrying about what times to use. That won't matter **** if there's only a dozen or so, or even less, willing to commit.

OK, so initially did not really understand why people were upset as thought, it is just ads just ignore them.

Now think i understand the thought process that certain users put an awful lot of effort into this forum, why should someone investing nothing or very little in the content get to make money off it.

so i am happy to join in. not sure anyone will notice my missing two threads but if helps get Krebs back on the forum then i am all for it

and also means i have finally learnt how to add an avatar. Next i will have some sort of signature

A one day boycott when the season is dry and quiet is pretty useless.

Do it for the month of July and you'll get pretty much anything you want as you'll hit them in the pocket book where it counts.

I know it will never happen though as most are not committed to the real cause. And on that one day don't open any webpage to with cyclingnews.com in it if you want to do it for real, checking in to see if anyone is posting is just as if you posted on that day.

Jan 16 suits me well as I'll be busy all day so I doubt I won't be able to post until at night at the earliest.

LOL, can we throw them at whoever is causing these ads to be on the forum pages? :D

A forum is only as good as the people who post in it. This forum has a certain measure of veracity and authority that other forums lack. This is in part what drives its popularity, and it's popularity is what draws informed fans, thus completing the circle.

In order to transfer most of that to a new forum, it will be necessary to draw up a list of say 10 to 20 key people and convince them individually, if they need convincing, to make the move.

Obviously we want the crowd, or most of it, but certain individuals are in my view key.

Would be nice to get Hitch and Libertine Seguros on board who are regular posters.

Also it might be a good idea to sort out a universal time to do the strike as if everyone does it on Jan 16 then with all the different time zones there will still be people from different parts of the world who will posting while others are protesting which will ultimately negate the point of the protest.

I believe that they gave up the day and moved to NZ time about 2 weeks ago

can I just say, that moving is not my intention, this place is great. However, there does need to be a balance between a forum that is pleasant to visit without the need for adblocking sofware, and a forum that if not creating a revenue stream for FP, does support itself.

AS members ultimately we have no say. Its FP's site and they can do what the hell they like with it, but as they dont respond publicly to emails, then a one day strike may get some attention. If not then sod it.. im outta here quicker than a ferrett who went to the olympic academy.

Absolutely, one missing member in particular!

I've borrowed your signature, Dim, and will be spreading the message in the cafe.

I agree with you dim. It would be nice to stay in our cozy home...except it's not feeling so cozy right now.
Some sort of acknowledgement or compromise would be a huge step.

Will anyone hear us??

we will not be silenced!!:D
