but foxxxy... it's gary.

OK, I see. WB only 6.5 favourites, even though playing at home, and GC is without Saad.... Is Gary that good that he alone lifts the talent level of a whole team from wooden spooner to T-8 level? I can´t believe that (for now). So: Bet made on straight out win for WB. Too bad I can´t watch live... otoh, will save my finger-nails.

2014:

9-6 with gary
1-6 without gary

2015:

1-0 with gary (we can't count the first week or two where he could hardly play)
1-11 without gary

He's a phenomenal player, the best I've seen and I've been around long enough to see his dad play, he was amazing too.

I was lucky enough to see him play in a couple of State of Origin matches in WA, they didn't call him "god" for nothing.

His father was an absolute phenomenon, capable of the most extraordinary things  . Junior is a very good player but plays a fundamentally different position to his dad. I would rate his father more highly.

By the way, it looks like the Bulldogs have just pulled themselves out of a hole in the last quarter against the Suns :D .

This week the the Suns seem to have played the WB part (to collapse in the 4th) ... Either way, another thriller. Good that I slept. Might have gotten into agony in the 3rd thinking about the Gary Ablett stories, and heart attack in the 4th when coming back from 26 at the quarter time... Another monstrous comeback game.

So instead of a 99-46 win, it´s gonna be 99-87 "only". :D

I shall bet more :D

The score is in the middle at 95-73

Next up leftover: Geelong > W :)

... Not.
Lost my WB bet this week. Even though they won ins50s, clearences, and hit outs... they lost.

Hawks on a mission beating two of the best teams in consecutive weeks with a stamp on it:
"Fremantle coach Ross Lyon suffered the heaviest defeat of his coaching career as Fremantle lost to Hawthorn by 72 points"
"Sydney coach John Longmire suffered the heaviest defeat of his coaching career as Sydney lost to Hawthorn by 89 points"

The Kardinya Park factor.

We're still in the 8 though, steady as she goes.

Now Collingwood. You may remember my post a few weeks back, a loss is in sight... If they could steal one here, it would be huge huge huge. It shall be a tight game, thus coming down to better kicking accuracy and to not meltdown.

Btw, now I really fell in love with WB. All the stories you told about them, the collapses, the nerve wrenching games, and that Homer Simpson pick sticks to me. I think I´ll suffer with you for the next couple of years, or a miracle happens before...

Collingwood will be a tough game, I have no idea who to tip as it's either team's win if they play their best.

With any luck the Pies will get the ball to Travis Cloak 30 times leaving them with a score of 2 goals 28 : 40

And the Bont will run wild along with Stringer allowing the Bulldogs to run away with the win.

But I feel the more experienced bodies of the Collingwood team could be the difference in the end.

Omg. Hawks still on a mission. A 173-35 pounding? They want to erase memories of the bad start completely. The only team I see a chance of beating them again is WCE... WB could do too, but only if they go like 19.3 to 16.18 against them. ;)

"Easy" schedule is part of it... but anyway, every win builds confidence and morale. Who knows, may they squeeze one out against the Hawks in the finals. Not impossible as Richmond showed.
Swans also back on track, and the Game of the week will be Hawks vs WCE...

Really looking forward to the Eagles v Hawks.

It's a game everyone over here has been waiting for all year, one where the Eagles will actually have to prove they're contenders.

So far this year they've lost to the Bulldogs, Freo and North Melbourne.

And they've beaten a whole lot of fodder, apart from Sydney, who they have played while at home while Sydney were missing quite a few stars.

They play Sydney only once too, Hawthorn they will play only once too, a soft draw?

Also, if the Eagles lose this week, it means next week, the derby, could decide the minor premiership, what a win for Freo that would be.

Freo home game too, but a win for Freo there really ups the stakes.

I know more than a few Freo supporters are shitting bricks of facing the Eagles either in a pre-lim or in the Grand Final and losing, it would be a loss that could never ever ever ever be forgotten.

Can you imagine, Freo win the minor premiership against the Eagles and then lose to them in a Grand Final, oh my god the entire state would go bananas.

I was also looking forward that game. But I choked in PM proportions. After my one-month layoff to save money, I forgot to re-load my card, so I can´t re-subscribe the monthly AFL pass this week. Now I hope if I prolong next week, that it includes the finals and GF. Then the mess-up would turn into something good by pure stupidity.

WCE-Hawks: I think WCE are the only team that could go on a daily basis up there with the Hawks. They would not need a special day like Essendon or Richmond had this season.
I think reason is: Their ruckman is one of the best (Nic Naitanu). Besides doing the usual win-them-hit-outs > thus lots of clearences for WCE > advantage Ins50s; he is good at doing the other parts too (kicking, marks).
As I said earlier, those guys shall be payed among the highest salaries... Could be wrong in details, but that is the way so far I crasped the game this year.

Btw, teams that underspend on the cap the past two seasons, are allowed to spend more next year.

http://www.afl.com.au/news/2015-08-07/clubs-set-to-spend-up-big-under-new-tpp-system

That is another great news for the WB. They were next to last in 2014. The near future is bright, the further away even brighter. :)

Salaries per team/player: (2014/USD)
1 Sydney Swans 270,681 (Guess Franklin has a lot to do with it)
2 Geelong 255,697
3 Greater Western Sydney 249,050
4 Fremantle 246,563
5 Hawthorn 241,306
6 North Melbourne 240,947
7 West Coast Eagles 238,938
8 Essendon 237,292
9 Carlton 235,921
10 Richmond 235,331
11 Melbourne 232,524
12 Collingwood 232,234
13 Adelaide Crows 231,302
14 Port Adelaide 229,716
15 Gold Coast 228,414
16 Brisbane Lions 227,793
17 Western Bulldogs 226,908
18 St Kilda 214,965 (wooden spooner here too)

I believe this weekend only, anyone overseas can watch for free at http://watchafl.afl.com.au/

I can't vouch for the service myself - I stumbled upon the info accidentally, but worth a try.

Thanks so much. :)
Saw the post mid-way trou the 3rd Qtr of the WB game. Meaning I could join a relaxed blow-out to get back into the game without nail-biting. I guess Leftover has a relaxed game too. No way Bulldogs give away a 40+ lead in the 4th...

They are on a mission:

What´s next leftover? Here is what we get: :)

PA-(48%) = Win

Same 48%er =
144-61?

Wow! WB on one giant streak. They´ll go deep in the finals. Hallelujah!
Gotta love em Bulldogs. I do. No doubt about it! :)

:)

Edit:

I was too optimistic ;)
The final is only 128-64

WE ARE 4TH ON THE LADDER!

Most likely temporarily, but that doesn't take the gloss off a great afternoon.

The match against the Hawks tomorrow has become a harder task for the Eagles following the sudden death of Nic Natinui's mother, he won't be playing, a HUGE loss for the Eagles.

I was about to write the same, and then to ask when was the last time the Bulldogs were 4th at any point during the season (ok, except week ones to three when things get just sorted out)... Must have been in the 90s, right?

I got a luxury problem in circa 1 hour: The Swans and Hawks games almost start the same time. But since the Swans take off 20 mins earlier, I´ll start with them, hope the game is in the bag after 20 mins, and then go to the Hawks game, rooting super strongly for the opponent WCE ofc. :D

Edit:
Natinui (out)

OK. Bad. Sad... Game over. Blow-out Hawks. Now can/must fully concentrate on the Swans game. Not to take away from the Sydney game, but I was really looking forward the WCE dropping the Hawks, and now it´s already over before it begun.

Edit II:
Oh I see, Franklin out. Was wondering why the Swans are only 4.5 points favourite. So I had to check line-ups... Counting on Goodes & Tippett.

Swans looking like the Lions nowadays. Forgettable...
Was able to see the 4th Qtr of the WCE-Haw contest, after the Swans game was over. It was a good 4th Qtr, but with the feared bad ending... Btw, Hawks should change their away game shirts. They look so ... disco-like with all that shiny stuff on.

... And ... Bulldogs officially Top-4 now. A miracle in the making. I am talking that up since months now. :) Sydney out of it for the first time. It all started with the jinx by Darwin on 26th of June.
