Contador joins the Badger as the only riders to win at least 2 of each GT. He's said this is his last Giro, so he will not achieve the 3 x 3, at least not officially.

Final podium excluding TTs:

Landa
Aru 0:01
Contador 0:52

If you exclude certain/specific stages, you can create whatever GC you want.

I agree , these sort of stats are pointless. You could say if Bertie never hurt his shoulder or Bertie never had a mechanical etc etc ,,,,utter nonsense and IMO points to more Bertie bashing.

What's the point of posting that apart from trying to undermine his win? Contador would've raced differently without TT and probably would've trained to be specifically in better climbing shape .

Landa showed today he couldn't sustain his effort after Finestre, and he got caught up, the same would've happened if had gone full out on Mortirolo, he'd probably been caught up by Kuiswijk and AC working efficiently together or at least wouldn't have been as strong up Aprica as he was after wheelshucking for the last 30 kms.

Indeed :)

About Berto:
He looked very bad on Finestre but seemed better on Sestriere. He most likely had a bad day and a very difficult moment on Finestre. He looked "ok" not super on other stages, but he got dropped by Kruijswijk, Aru and Uran. It's not like those riders have been better than him the entire race. And it was clear, especially after the descent, that Alberto was just measuring his efforts, he probably knew that if he would go all out he would risk exploding completely.
All in all not a great stage for him and the fans, but he rode smartly and showed his experience. He looked much better in other stages so I doubt he is in terrible shape. Don't panic! :)

I need a more positive Bertie outlook. Your post has cheered me up.
Bertie will demolish all in the tour.

Well hopefully today's stage can at least put end to motor in bike talk. But I'm sure that Contador will be at his best in Tour de France.

I have been looking for like an hour and half because bein cutaway before the interviews started.
Best I have found so far is he has claimed dehydration. (A Little hungover maybe !!?? jk)

I expect something better from you. Have these loonies become contagious? That is one of the dumbest most misleading stats imaginable.
Merckx Index's signal to noise ratio is probably the best in the entire forum. Wouldn't dismiss him immediately when he posts the uncomfortable truth than Contador's climbing was suspect in this Giro. Not sure what's "misleading" about this stat.

Slams head against desk. idk, perhaps because the itt and the contenders pre-conceived abilities before and the results after shaped the strategy and the dynamics of the entire effin race???

Leaves thread for awhile before the contagion spreads.

I must say i am disappointed. I thought you could play this game of three a bit better.

You were a bit too eager.

Thanks as I hadn't found anything yet. He got a bidon at the top, maybe it had sugar water in it as he was doing a bit better after the descent, then was flagging again near the end. Overall a courageous ride whatever caused the issue.

He may have lost a few battles during this Giro but Won the War!!!

Well done AC, winning your third giro :)
Hopefully your team will be better in the tour, and your climbing shape stronger as well, or else Nibali won't have any opposition this July :p
If TS shows up with the same sorry team, Nibali's main concern will not be Contador. You better watch out for Sky and Movistar...

I don't think he was flagging. He simply wasn't pushing anymore but came to end with comfortable pace. He couldn't catch those in front of him at that point.

Re: Re:

“Today was not a great stage for me. I wasn't feeling good, probably because of the accumulated effort, but I knew I had a good cushion in the GC and, even though there were plenty of kilometers to go before the finish, I preferred to ride at my own rhythm. There was never a moment, where I thought the jersey was in danger. I remained calm because I knew that the difference in speeds between the groups was going to be small”, says Alberto Contador, who lost 1’40” on stage 20.

“We'll have a good dinner tonight, although I have to watch my weight for the Tour. This Giro d'Italia is in the bag now, with just tomorrow's stage to come, so I'm already thinking of my next target”.

Alberto definitely made a good show for the viewers, not so much for us right there on Finestre”, says Steven de Jongh with a smile. “He had a difficult moment and he also said that he found it hard to ride out of the saddle on the gravel sections. Of course, when he also got dropped by Aru, we had a scary moment in the car but as we realized that he wasn’t empty on the descent and the flat part we cooled down again.

Congratulations for Alberto for his Giro! Actually he's won triple triple on the road so far (3xGiro, 3xTour, 3xVuelta). However this Giro was not a piece of cake for Contador (bad luck and overall fatigue). Thus I don't think he will be able to win Tour in july. I'm his fan but it's unlikely for him to defeat Froome, Quintana and Nibali - all of them preparing their peak form only for the Tour. Maybe it's even better to have lower expectations and to get a nice surprise in July.
