1. Not Nibalis fault that Froome doesn't have a good recovery
2. As you say. His tour win was a walk in the park. Didn't have to go all out at any point in the race.
3. Irrelevant that he hasn't beaten AC on a single mountain stage. Only the last 2 years that Nibali has been in what we might call "prime years" and they have not met each other in a single gt in those years, but I would bet my life savings on that he would have beaten AC in a gt last year ;)
4. Better tt'er? On a hilly tt, perhpas. On a reasonably flat one? no way.
5. Palamares is a bad argument when we are talking about their situasion "now" anyways

If you base who has/had better form on how they performed throughout THIS whole season, AC still blows Nibali out of the water.

Different solutions to their big goal of the season. I am willing to admitt that AC probably got the best base level of all gt cyclist togheter with Froome, and can perfom better than Nibali over a year. I just don't think that this has any correlation with a peak form over 3 weeks in July...

But AC (and yes, Nibali as well) has proven that he knows how to peak for a GT. That fact plus how he rode all season leads me to believe that he would have done EXTREMELY good at this years Tour. He had a great spring, took the nessacery break, wasn't over raced, and came back in the summer with amazing form. He would have been hard to beat. Speculation (only to a certain degree :p) I know. :D

1.Not Froome's fault if Nibali had weak competition.

2. If he had to gone all out, he wouldn't have been as strong as he was by the 3rd week.

3. In the last 2 years: AC beat nibs San luis 2013 on both MTF, and finished ahead of him at prato di tivo at TA even in awful shape.
2014: Nib crushed at Dauphiné. Would've been crushed on every race they'd ve faced each other.

4. Another biased idea "Alberto is **** on flat" Even on a flat TT, AC is better . Giro 2011 Milan TT 3rd place, where was Nibali?
Grenoble (Tour 2011) 3rd, Annecy 2009 AC was the fastest at the first FLAT intermediate point in front of Wiggins and Cancellara.
What about all the flat prologues where AC is obvisouly much better than Nibali?
5. I was talking overall, but yeah let's talk about now, who was strongest this season?

"I would bet my life savings on that he would have beaten AC in a gt last year" Well, then I'd bet my life AC would have beaten Nibali in this Tour, is that okay ;)

Great point!

Next year Bertie will KICK Nibali's ***, and so will Froome and Nairito. Go Bertie! The best EVER for me :) :)

Then Nibbles will have the excuse he has ridden the Giro. He's a clever boy you know;)

There is nothing to suggest Nibali would have been able to beat Contador, while there's this season plus past performances that suggest Contador would have been stronger than Nibali.

1. your arguemt was that Froome has a lower average watt output than what he could have had since he had to give it all on every mountain stage (or atleast that is how I understood you), why can't it be reasonable to you that Nibalis watts are also a bit lower than what they could have been if he had the incentive to go all out?

2. that's your assumption, fine.

3. Yes, San luis, woho!!!
Look at my post to LaFlo, I have no problem admitting that ACs base level through a season togheter with an injury free Froome is higher than Nibalis.

4. I am FULLY aware of ACs tt palamares in Astana... But this is 2014, and he hasn't done a single flat tt this year. Last year he sucked, and in 12 I don't think he did one either (?). Nibali was 4th in this tour reasonablyt flat tt. Hard to be much better than that...

5. AC has been the strongest rider career wise, and has been the strongest on average this season. This is not hard to see.

Nibalis numbers this tour is on par with Froomes last year, and Froomedog last year can't be far behind any version of AC

While that is impressive it is still 4% less then AC's best numbers. Might not sound much but in scientific data (as well as on road) its about the difference between a 2013 Contador and 2009 Contador.
