So there you have it, Giro 2011 means nothing because he raced against second tier riders.

In my opinion Alberto would not have ridden away if his opponents had been Andy, Evans, Sanchez etc. so that only supports my opinion that Alberto isn't good enough to win GTs anymore.

lol. As Ryo would have said. If Nibali can win a gt. Conta can win one with one leg choped off... :D

I didn't just turn pessimistic overnight. I've had this feeling for a good long while now.

Crash / Injury. These are the only potential factors preventing an AC Vuelta win.

Giro 2011. Do you consider Scarponi, Nibali etc second rate? If he had been slightly better than the rest I might be concerned just now. He was however so many levels above (on virtually every stage).:)

Andy will probably suck at the vuelta.
He has to recover from that injury.

This. He's not going to be on his bike for the next 4-6 weeks. The Vuelta starts in 8 weeks (counting from next Monday). And, before you say he can build his form for the third week. Take a look at the Vuelta course. The 1st week has 4 stages that finish on rated climbs. The 2nd week has a 40KM TT plus 4 stages that finish on rated climbs (3 are in a row). The 3rd week has 2 uphill finishes. This course is better for Andy than the Tour, but I don't think Andy can get his fitness level up to be as competitive as he's been in the TdF. Not after a month or 6 weeks off the bike.

A good course for Contador :D

To be the best, you have to face the best too.
So alberto riding away from all the second tier GT contenders in la vuelta, like Giro 2011, won't mean he is the best.
Going against a top shape andy in the mountains will.

It's not Alberto who's not facing the best. It's Cadel Evans ;)

If ASO are seriously considering blocking Radioshack (the team of their beloved Andy) from the Tour. Then I think we can be certain they will do everything possible to block Saxobank/Alberto from next few Tours.

No, not just until Andy wins the tour but until it's absolutely sure Alberto won't win.

I'm afraid WADA have their own stance on that. And they will dig down that situation thoroughly. Many fans would be eager to know the circumstances of the 2007 Tour in details. I bet you too? The more info about the idol - the better.

I'm afraid that investigation would also involve the Schlecks then.

Nah I don't necessarily need this extra info.

He said he would.

Probably no need though you'd think, seeing as signing Alberto for 3 years kind of implies that Saxo will have the means to strengthen the team. I doubt we'll be talking about lack of WT points come August.

Okay I get it Susan. No other thread about Alberto is allowed. Not even posts about Alberto are allowed outside of this thread. And we can have 10000s of threads about Andy, Wiggo, etc?

Nevermind, it doesn't matter. I will be a regular cycling fan from now on so that I don't have to deal with dozens of restrictions.

You knew the deal when you opened the knee thread, stop being such a martyr.

You manage to get Contador comments in a number of other threads, so you don't need to play the martyr.

The point is more: don't open silly polls that no one knows the answer to anyway, and don't badger people when they don't agree with your opinion.

Blablabla. I thought you were going to avoid this thread.

That was before yet more pointless Contador thread popped up, and look who the OP was.

And I'll read whatever threads I like thanks, unless a moderator tells me otherwise. Just like I'd keep all my Contador foolishness in one thread if explicitly asked by a moderator.
