After a win like this, this thread deserves a bump.

Congratulations Andrew, not afraid to give it all and go for a long range attack. Plus in the post-race interview seemed a nice and humble guy.

Gj bro, amazing ride.

I feel sad for him though. The press will give him the same treatment as tj and think he's gonna top 5 the tour.

Talansky has approached this season as if he was suffering from an injury in the winter, like Vandenbroeck was. He gradually built form towards the Tour and this means that means he'll have a monster peak. He's a podium candidate.

_O_ Awesome . Garmin have been so exciting this year. Hesjedal's and Talansky's long range attacks, Slagter's showing in Paris-Nice, even Dan Martin's L-B-L performance, where he seemed to be the strongest.

Garmin needed this win. It's not like they've performed badly this year, but due to Slagter's mechanical in Paris-Nice, Talansky's mechanical in Romandie and Martin's crashes in LBL and Giro, they didn't earn many valuable results and were placed as badly as never in UCI WT Team Ranking.

I've seen Talansky as a future TdF podium contender as far back as in 2010. I'm happy, but not that much surprised to see him winning Dauphine.

Tour de L'venir 2010

Look at the second! some pretty good company.

Classement général
1 Nairo Quintana Colombie Colombie en 26 h 49 min 21 s
2 Andrew Talansky États-Unis États-Unis + 1 min 44 s
3 Jarlinson Pantano Colombie Colombie 1 min 55 s
4 Tom-Jelte Slagter Pays-Bas Pays-Bas 2 min 05 s

Yeah good to see..

Quintana won the Giro
Talansky the Dauphine
Slagter is currently 6th in Suisse and had 2 stage wins in PN
Landa was a good domestique in the giro
Pantano was visible in the mountains in the giro as well
Bardet was 5th in the Dauphine
Matthews led the Giro for a while + stage win
Atapuma, well we saw him again today and always attacking in mountains
Kelderman, 7th giro, 4th dauphine

Strong generation that one :D

lance had the most fighting spirit i ever saw in an athlete, look at that triathlon when he doesn't even look at his daughter because he lost. when he was competing, he was all in. nothing else mattered. that's why even being an absolute mobster, jerc, aszhole and all the names, he is one of the greatest champions of the whole sport history's

This is exactly my opinion what I say to all friends and co when they ask me opinion on Armstrong.
Very true jens.

let's hope he doesn't cheat like armstrong

I just keep wondering how much chance does he have of finishing TdF on the podium. Why should we consider riders like Nibali out of his reach?

I think Talansky would be treated much more seriously now had he been in his top shape all throughout the TdF last year. For some reason (I know he was ill just before and in early Dauphine and that disrupted his preparation to some extent, but I'm not sure if this is 100% answer), he seemed to be well out of his top shape for the first two weeks, but in the last couple of days he was on Kreuziger's level, beating Mollema every single stage and on the last mountain stage he even beat Contador. So top5 could be a possibility last year had he reached his peak 1.5 weeks earlier.

Then people would realise it's not far from top5 to top3 and that Talansky is a serious contender.

Nonetheless, he proved he recovers really well in 3rd week in both TdF2013 and Vuelta2012 so that bodes well for his GC attemp. If he can only avoid loses on flat stages and on cobbles.

I'm also very curious how will his team perform. I'm 95% sure there will be Millar, Navardauskas and Langeveld to support him on the flat. But in mountain things get more sophisticated.
Hesjedal is supposed not to be there. It's a shame because I feel he is more versatile (can survive fairly well both big climbs and hilly, Ardennes-like stages, then do a lot of good work on the descent or flat) than any of riders that are gonna be there. Well, it wouldn't shock me at all if Vaughters decides to change his mind last-minute and send Hesjedal to the France, just like he unexpectedly brought Danielson to Giro last year. I think it was mistake from the very beginning that Hesjedal targetted Giro this year. TdF with that cobbled stage (he did very well on the simillar one in 2010) could suit him more.
There have also been some speculation than Dan Martin would be there if he recovers but I don't think it's likely scenario either.
So who's left?
- Slagter- great season but unproven in big mountain.
- Dennis- good showing in California but can he climb with the very best day after day?
- Acevedo- good climber but unproven on a WT level.
- Danielson- proven rider but is getting older and older. California was an indication that he might be not that good as he used to anymore, because he always did well in this race in previous years.
- Howes- seemed to be doing good job at protecting Talansky at Dauphine to a some point (lost only 3 minutes to Froome on stage 2 and didn't get dropped from main group on stages 3 and 6), then completely disappeared (nowhere to be seen on the last 2 stages). It suggest he can climb but his recovery is fairly (I don't mean Caleb:D) poor.
So all in all, it's all uncertain. This has the potential to turn out as a really good team, but each of those riders might turn out not to be good enough in big mountain ATM to be a serious help. Most of these guys are in the Switzerland right now so I will be looking forward to see how they do.

I am not prepared to discuss the above as I think any qualities LA may have had or even still retains are now completely irrelevant and he deserves no accolades whatsoever.

The man brought our sport into disrepute on an unimaginable scale which has and will take years to repair. I do not join the clinic discussions because it sickens me so much.:(

Lance, his memory and everything about him should be absolutely condemned and thrown on a pyre.

I went on this thread because I had an interest in sharing the recent success of Talanksy today and find myself commenting on a subject abhorable to me.

I respect the veteren that Jens Attacks is but think not only are his opinions misplaced but also question his judgement in where and when to write such an inflammatory post.

He blackens the purity of Talansky's victory today IMO no matter how tenuous or unintentional those comparisons to LA may be. Perhaps JA should turn his brain on and think next time where he posts such ill-conceived views!!!!

Grrrrrr.

Talansky? A TdF podium candidate? Well, my stars, sure, but so is Tommy Voelckler! I'd give them about the same odds. Top 10? Sure. Podium? Well, long shots DO happen!

There is a word for that kind of praise: "faint". That is faint praise if I've ever seen it. Remind me to check what block I'm on - I don't want to park in that neighborhood.

Who dares, wins.
O man did he! It made me pucker at the wrong end just watching! Whuh! They were all against the wall! What a stage.

Some of what I've just said may sound a bit neg. Well, I'm cheering Talansky today. Him and Garmin. I cheered Ryder when he won Giro. Him and Garmin. They are a bunch of good guys, and I believe JV's line. I think they have some of the best tactical smarts in the peloton - and a bunch of top 10 riders. Not top 5, top 10. But what they DO with those guys is worth cheering. They pay attention to when the opportunities arise. They put guys out there to take the chance if they can. And then they work on the road!

Lovely.

GOOD ON YA, MR ANDREW TALANSKY! BRAVO!
GOOD ON YA, RYDER HESJEDAL, THE CANOOK, for doing the best dom work a leader could possibly hope for. Good on ya.

Good on ya, Orica and AG2r, and Tommy Voelckler, for working the break and being a big part of making it happen. I wanted Bertie to win, but this was a wonderful race.

Somebody please fill in the other teams in the break who made this happen. I've forgotten who all was there.

But this was the strongest break I've seen in - oh - I don't know how long! I predicted at the start it would not last. But, it did, and it was hell of a race.

Oh, man, no wonder he got all emotional! I can only think I would have had the emote jag even worse. Overcome.

And good on the ASO gent for blocking the camera immediately after this shot. Properly done.

Never been a Ryder fan, but I have to say you're spot on. He was a terrific domestique this week. Great, great work. Granted, doing work for Contador is a bit different, but I hope Roche was taking notes.
