Can't believe this thread has been silent for more than a month. Labor (sorry, that's how Americans spell it) has its worst showing since before WWII, and no discussion of what it needs to do? Is there going to be a no deal Brexit? Will Scotland declare its independence? What will N Ireland do?
Well theres a lot of analysis going on.
In short, the Conservatives didnt win the election, Labour lost it. Cons gained only 300k votes. Labour lost 2.5 million.
Sure, Corbyn unpopular amongst voters, but In some ways election was re-run of Brexit vote.
Leave are claiming election gives them a final definite mandate, but it doesnt majority of votes went to Remain parties. If it had been a referendum, Remsin would have won. But it was a GE and remain vote was split 4 ways (at least). BXP stood down, so Leavd vote centred on conservatives.
FPTP voting system means cons got 44% of vote, but 54% of seats.
Print media did usual job of smearing Labour, very successfully. BBC was unquestionably reporting Cons in positive terms, and Labour negatively.
Con strategy was to lie, lie, lie, and then evade all proper scrutiny. Factcheck site reported 88% of Cons. facebook adds as misleading. Labour 0%.
Really really bad omen for future of UK politics, in terms of how Cons conducted themselves and how they will behave now, but also lack of actual opposition for the time being towards a government with large majority.
Scotland agitating for 2nd indyref (which will happen). In NI for the first time ever the Republicans hold majority of seats. Irish sea border means Unionists have been shafted right up the sh1tpipe by Johnson.
Johnson pledging that there will be new transition extension which means either he is lying (as usual) or he will have to accept what EU gives him, and so-called Brexit will leave us in single market...in which case main opposition to government will come from within it's own ranks.
Johnson and Tories are smugly triumphant now, but chickens will come home to roost next year. It's going to be fun
