How can cadel evans NOT gain a second (1 measly second) in 5 days on thor? with help too?

no wonder he throws stuff at people

You've ridden alot of stage races, have you? That second is golden as long as he can keep Garmin protecting it.

What does that say about Schleck, Wiggins, Gesink who all lost time to Thor.

Or all the other GC contenders who also have not gained any time on Thor.

Thirdly why would he want the yellow now anyway.

Hook, line and sinker :)

I've been dubious about Evans podium chances this year, but "so far so good"...and I must say he seems a bit more explosive than I have seen him before.

He has been gaining 1/10 of a second each stage and is now only 2/10th behind Thor, should get yellow tonight.

that's not how it works. they always finish in same group so get given exact same time... there has to be significant (read 1 full second) gap between any of the riders in the group to the next person to get different times

I see irony isn't a strong suit on this forum...

Just finished my ironing of shirts for the coming week, Are you sure, they were using tenths of a second in the TTT?

Mate these are exactly my thoughts, but he is our only Australian GC chance that is going to get a team behind him as far as I can see into the near future & as far as i know there is nothing wrong with being patriotic.
He has dissapointed before, but he has never looked so good & he has been looking that way since his rainbow stripes. Remember last year they were only starting to build a team around him & he had to ride the Giro cos they did not have a qualified entry to the TDF.
He's gunna win.

It doesn't matter what kind of form Evans is in, BMCs tactic of riding very close to or on the front is proving to be a fortuitious masterstroke as his rivals literally fall by the wayside. Broken bones may be taking people out of the race but the effects both physical and psychological of the accumulation of soft tissue injuries on others shouldn't be underestimated.

basically everyone was going down the descent of the Peyrol climb really fast but he was leaving gaps as it was really dangerous. Seeing Willems and the others on the side of the road was quite scary and it was a blind turn which made it difficult. Didn't know how the crash in the break happened and said that he'd had enough of bike racing from the first week.

At the start of the interview when the mic volume was so low, Cadel started off by saying the guys (team) kept him in front all day. But in the descent of the Peyrol where all mayhem broke loose he said he was on the brakes a lot. Smart riding by him to let gaps form in that situation. He obviously sensed it was not good to be aggressive there. His shaken emotional state during the interview shows that these guys are human and can get plenty scared, for themselves and others as well.

yeah my Dad who is 66 said he couldnt get to sleep after stage 8, thinking things are looking good for Cadel :) This is coming from a bloke who used to race as an amateur, took our whole family to the 1983 tour and has been around bike racing all his life. Cant wait for Thursday night.

Well, I gotta say I'm happy for Cadel's situation in the race at this point. For years, with Telekom and so on, he had lots of bad luck and injuries. So I hope good luck stays with him and all the others still left in this bike race.

If somehow Contador's right knee worsens through the next weeks, I'm going to favor Evans over the baby Schleck- and I hope Cadel can hang on to him in the mountains & beat him in the ITT....

in the pyrenees?

yeah..
My figure is about 2-3 minutes.
I see him losing the tour already at de Beille

Nah, on Thursday alone. Although I guess for "first week peaker" Evans he should lose the least time here of all the hard finishes.

He will lose 5-10minutes across all the MTFs.

Still might be good enough to podium.

What has Andy shown this season or this tdf to make you doubt it?

Andy is not having a worse season in 2011 than he did in 2010. Contador couldn't drop him in the mountains last year, and has had a sub-optimal preparation as a result of the Giro.

So suggesting that Andy would drop big time to Contador carries with it assumptions that Andy is in significantly poorer form than 2010, with no real evidence to suggest so and/or Contador's form is significantly better than in 2010, when history says it's probably going to be worse, if anything.
