My guess is the virus is called "being too old and over the hill", but he refuses to accept it and keeps asking for a second and a third and a fourth opinion.

Thanks for this ... had a good chuckle.

Just wondering what mysterious 'virus' Cadel has had for the last year as he keeps citing it as the reason for his poor form last season and the start of this one. Given the length of time it's taking for him to recover from it and the drastic effect it has on his athletic ability I'm surprised it doesn't have a name.

What I find funny is that Evans is having almost the exact same decline as menchov including the illness (and to a lesser extent basso and scarponi)

But for menchov we go - ah we all know why he's crap now. He's off the drugs. And for Evans we go - he's just getting old is all.

But I don't think Menchov is off the drugs :D

Mysterious virus/bacteria/parasite.

Take your pick from:

West Nile virus
Tape worm
Malaria
Swineflu
Rabies
Ebola
Dengue fever

(sorry if this line of response bothers)

Are we still pretending that going from solid form in the Dauphine and very good form in the first week of the Tour before deteriorating as time progressed, was the result of "illness" that he caught somewhere in July and has dogged him ever since?

He's doing it the Sky way, too. Not racing to train, but racing to ... er .. get back to his best level.

I do wish Evans would give more information on the 'virus'. But Evans 'decline' has been rather sharper than Menchov's - I have no idea if that's good or bad, though :)

Since he's a shadow of his 2011 self, and given your opinion of why Sky are at the level they are, I would assume its safe to say he isn't doing it the Sky way. Sure the virus would be Bilharzia by now, can hide a multitude of sins, that one.

I've had a couple of virus' recently, managed to get over them in a few days. I;m guessing one that takes over a year to recover from is pretty bloody serious. Froome Dawg level serious.

Waiting to see if he's a racehorse again.

evans is feeling pinch of age, and likely winning a tour celan can take a lot out of a rider, one guys I would have faith in, but then again theirs a fine line in sand that can easy to cross sometimes

lol, little clean Evans, just wheel sucking his way for the last 10 years, beating dopers along the way.

Working harder, putting more miles in than anybody else.

Probably true. Hincapie said he never saw anyone kill themselves training, as much as Evans does. He said that his mountain training camps were brutal and just to train like that is impossible for the average pro rider.

Evans is probably clean, the fact that he dropped of last season is due to age catching up with him, as the bio passport has come in Evans has relatively gone up the ladder, who knows with a cleaner peleton over the years he could have been a multiple tour winner, oh and yes I know the Och sucks big time

another sign of clean guy is when he has a setback and his training is affected he suffers for it, always wonder how some pros can be off bike for bit and still come back just right.

good point is how some of these guys can get weight so low, not eat but keep training hard.

nah, Hein called BMC and asked for its riders to reduce the juicing.

Gilbert tanked
Hushovd tanked
Evans tanked

Evans was clean for the first time in his career in 2012.

Clean so far in 2013 too, but will it last?

Gilbert had a pretty strong end to season with stages at Vuelta and winning the worlds, the other two are just getting older.

Dat BMC virus, it's rough for sure
7 Greg Van Avermaet (Bel) BMC Racing Team
12 Daniel Oss (Ita) BMC Racing Team
22 Marcus Burghardt (Ger) BMC Racing Team
32 Michael Schär (Swi) BMC Racing Team

Jim, u are a nice fellow but what do you want to prove with this? BMC should be winning or podium in Flanders? Not gonna happen. Without Ballan on the road that is.

What do u expect from a team that gives van Avermaet the lead...

Vuelta was with limited competition and of course the worlds has nothing to do with BMC.

Its just business, del, nothing to do with age or coincidence.
