And if you discount all hilly and mountain stages as well as tts (since you have already disqualified them) Cav would have won the Tour.

Its one thing to discount ttts or mechanical problems or crashes where a time loss is not a riders fault. Uphill finishes and tts however are entirely up to the riders themselves.

ok, let me dumb it down for you: There will be no more TT this vuelta. When genuine time differences are concerned on uphill finishes JVDB is in 2nd place. Fast forward to next week: no TT, only flat and mountains. Hence (normally i'd say "connect the dots", but i will gladly walk you through it), considering his form and preparation, considering there are no more TT yet more mountains with more than likely larger time differences (where time bonusses will play a smaller role) it is not unlikely he will gain quite a few places. How much, i dont know. But again, i never claimed he was going to win.

Now, please, let me know if something remains unclear to you.

Well done to Mollema for his Vuelta. A day in red halfway through and a likely top 10.

Theres more to come.

I always liked Mollema, and thought he could do well, unlike those who continue to mock him with a nickname that should only ever be reserved for people like Contador, Gilbert, Cancellara, Merckx.

I'm mocking TGBM when I use that nickname

I thought the Dutch Mafia was busy re-appropriating it from those who would mock young Bauke.

As far as I can tell the whole Mollema thing in this forum has always been 95% affectionate.

Oh, I forgot to add "arrogance" to the description of your unique style.

For us Dutchies (for me at least) the term "Great Bauke Mollema" just has a very funny ring to it, because his name is really that of an anti-hero. The name Bauke Mollema sounds like a potato farmer from the north.

Personally I'd like to think that he could win this year...but I just don't think so. However, I do think he will win it in the future.

I like to believe so but know realistically the chances are very slim. As slim as Jvdb's chances this Vuelta :p

And again, you fail to see the point. I never said Mollema can't win the Vuelta. I said he won't win THIS vuelta. I never said JVDB would win this Vuelta either. My point was just to show that he is most likely to improve. Nothing more. And your grandmother would not have lost time on those mountains/hills? Sign her up i'd say!

Yes, arrogance. I'm guilty of that. But with good reason.

Aha, see, now that wasn't so bad. I bet you think i'm gonna disagree with you on JVDB's chances don't you? I'll restate my claim: top 10, possibly top 5. It would be amazing if he podiumed let alone won. Slightly less amazing as when Mollema would (just because i think the next weeks are bit better suited to JVDB and i've never seen Mollema compete for 3 weeks for the top spots). Conclusion: neither is gonna win this. Can we hope? Sure we can, but i'm not putting any money down.

Well, he is from Groningen!:D

I think it would take some sort of unexpected miracle for Bauke to win this Vuelta, though I can certainly see him riding top five - and improving further in the coming years. He is one of our brightest prospects in years....though we've had enough of those who went on to disappoint.:(

Can he win?
Based on his performances in the first week: certainly.

Will he win?

Nah. It's extremely unlikely that he will best the more experienced riders in a three week race.

So: yes he can, no he won't.

Snip.

Yes, arrogance. I'm guilty of that. But with good reason.

So he calls you arrogant, you tell him he doesnt see the point before admitting you are arrogant.

Well then he does see the point doesn't see.

1-1+1 = 1

Simple logic no? its your friend.

Gesink is actually a farmers son..
Mollema looks like a farmer too. Then Kruijswijk is from farmers land Brabant. And Poels is from Limburg and I won't even begin about our province reputation

The Noord-Hollanders Dekker and Reus have failed us so far (although Reus had an excuse)

Are you saying all Dutch cyclists are either farmers or failures?

We will never know because of the infamous D_T ignore list :)

Vincenzo Nibali in interview with Dutch newspaper this morning: "Mollema is a dangerous outsider. Noone knows exactly what his limits are. Even Mollema himself doesn't know."

Vincenzo Nibali, head of the Sicily Chapter of the Dutch Mafia :p

gesink has failed a lot more than dekker and reus who were suspended or in coma

besides both reus and gesink are from towns that havd more "farmers" than the city of groningen were mollema was born

I guess gesink should have doped to even the odds.
