Team Garmin/Cervelo/Cannodale have become a comedy team, they are there to tell jokes before the stage and that's about it. JV talks about sports science, new training methods and they still fail. European has more success with crazy attacks and they aren't even in the peloton anymore!
Uhmmm, they just won a stage in the TOC. That's not exactly the 2016 Pizzatime Gran Fondo. :D

You're right, King beat world class sprinter Huffan who was able to skip out of his indie band practise to come second in the sprint

Ben King (Cannondale) upset the peloton as the breakaway stole the stage from the sprinters in Santa Clarita winning a two up sprint against Evan Huffman (Rally)

nice win, American Team, north american sponsor, stage and race lead in Cali.

that´s fine, they are at that level nowadays. if Astana or Etixx or BMC only major win until now was a ToC stage they would be mad.
Cannondale goals and budget are a bit lower.
I think people should have understood by now, after 4 years since their Giro win and less and less results ;)

but no

i can really see the Cannonade directors thinking that a stage win a ToC is huge! Nope. They sponsor the team for Stage wins at the TdF, monuments and classic wins, not ToC. WT team wants big wins or at least they should. Maybe JV keeps them drunk on his wife tipples and they can't tell the difference between ToC and TdF........;)

Well, Phil did refer to the ToC peloton yesterday as "the Tour de France peloton". Don't know if that is from drinking or post-Lance senile dementia.

Re: Team Garmin getting dropped in the new era of cycling

Pierre Rolland is expecting to target a stage win and get as high on the GC as he can as he leads Cannondale at the Criterium du Dauphine this week. The 29 year old Frenchman says he will do his best but his eyes are on the Tour de France, now just four weeks away.

“The big objective for me and the team is the Tour de France,” Rolland told VeloNews. “I am thinking about the Tour, but we hope to have results earlier.”

Rolland says he has put lots of pressure on himself ahead of this race, as he is desperate to please his new team and show them what he can do as their leader.

“There is a different kind of pressure, because I am on a new team, and I want to do something nice,” Rolland said. “The pressure comes from me.”

Vaughters is a joke!

Re: Team Garmin getting dropped in the new era of cycling

Does anyone actually believe this shtick? Rolland is going to get smashed even more so than with in training from 1975

"We'll be centering the team around Pierre Rolland, as this back-end loaded Tour de France uniquely suits his diesel-like qualities," Slipstream Sports CEO Jonathan Vaughters said in a statement released with today's announcement. "He may not be the most explosive rider, but come the last few days of the Tour de France, he will surprise a few folks. We'll also be helping Lawson Craddock realize his potential in his first Tour, and looking for opportunities to animate the race."

Joining Rolland and Craddock in the team's Tour de France line up will be Matti Breschel, Alex Howes, Kristijan Koren, Sebastian Langeveld, Ramunas Navardauskas, Tom-Jelte Slagter and Dylan Van Baarle.

"We go into this race as a hungry mongrel of a team," Vaughters said. "But I'll take that over a poncy, over-fed poodle any day."

Which team is JV alluding to when he says "poncy, over-fed poodle" ?

Vaughters really does have to be a damn fine con artist, how else does he keep getting teams to "merge" with Slipstream? It certainly isn't results, he can't seem to ever secure enough sponsorship dollars and turns over riders who end up saying the team was run poorly, he'll even Koren was complaining about not being told he was in the Tour squad until the last minute.
Vaughters is straight up incompetent! But damn he's a good snake oil salesman

I've said before I think JV sees himself in the mould of a tech startup CEO being innovative and announcing the Tour team at the last minute is 'lean' and 'agile' like Amazon keeping a tight leash on stock levels or Dell doing just-in-time manufacturing or zero hours contracts etc.

He conveniently ignores that what he's dealing with aren't warehouse items but human beings who would appreciate knowing when they're going to be away with work and when they have time off. It's not unique to him - people have this exceptionalism about sport that makes them think all the formal and informal rules of employment don't matter as long as the results happen (e.g. Shane Sutton). This is nonsense as professional sport is an occupation, and a bad boss is a bad boss, and an unpleasant work environment is an unpleasant work environment, whether it's at a desk in the financial district or 2,000 metres above sea level in the French Alps.

Yes, Rolland now not training like it is 1975 is still getting dropped like he did in 2015 and prior.

He did crash but had already dropped a minute.

He did crash but had already dropped a minute.

Garmin aka Cannondale Drapac with JV at the helm, are where riders go to get paid and become mediocre.

Give Rollande some time, it was just a crash on a fast descent. He's looked fine so far.

What is not normal is his team mate who left Etixx, Rigoberto Uran, has had his chrono/time trial become a farce. He's dropped the ability to actually do well in that event.

By contrast, Dan Martin who left to join Etixx has improved over all as a rider. It's not week 3 of the Tour, but Martin's confidence is different; he seems to believe in himself.

Doping talk aside, I think it is kind of clear, post 2011, Garmin or JV's little venture has been a very poorly run professional racing outfit. Professional is simply a courtesy given to them. So many riders join that team and their career goes backwards.

Both Dan Martin and Ryder Hesjedal left...I wonder why?

Any talk attributed to riders training poorly and becoming "pro's" once they join Garmin aka JV, need to be silenced. The old 'lie' that the French train like they're in the dark ages needs to be put down. Started with the Americans and is once again being perpetuated it seems. JV should grow up and leave if he cannot get results.
