And I see #6 BYU lost yesterday.
It will be interesting to see if they fall further than Tenn.

Looking a the schools that make up the Group of 5, will anyone outside of the Mountain West ever get the spot?
Well, this year you have #19 undefeated Army & #20 Tulane tied for 1st place in the American Athletic Conference with both locked into the conference championship game.

Army hosts #6 Notre Dame this Sat in probably their biggest game in team history. If they win this game & win the AAC conference, they could challenge & probably overtake Boise St for the Group of 5 top spot.

Monstrous day in college ball:

Ohio St smokes Indiana ending their fairly tale season.

Unranked Oklahoma destroys #7 Alabama giving Bama an unprecedented 3 losses since 2010 putting their playoffs hope in jeopardy!

Unranked Auburn upsets #15 Texas A&M in an OT thriller!

Arizona St upsets BYU in a crazy finish to the game! CU is upset by Kansas! A 4-way tie for 1st place in the Big 12 (CU, BYU, ASU, Iowa St).

Boise St holds off Wyoming in a close one at Laramie (Jeanty runs wild for 169 yds). With the Army loss to ND, Boise St has the Group of 5 qualifier all but locked up.

We are almost there.
This weekend is the normal end of season for most teams.
Next weekend are the conference championship games. Always a chance for some calamity.
Finals rankings come out after the conference championships.

I think English fans of American college gridiron football (both of them :)) would describe this weekend as being filled with "derbies"

It's crunch time for some teams. And there's a colossal mess in the Big 12 with a 4-way tie for the 1st place with only 2 of those of those 4 qualifying for the conference championship game (Arizona St, Iowa St, BYU & CU).

CU took care of the business today destroying Oklahoma St 52-0 in the season finale. Now they need 2 out of the other 3 teams to lose in order to play in the conference championship & have a shot at the playoffs

What a day in college ball:

Unranked Michigan shocks #2 Ohio St knocking them out of the Big 10 Championship game (It'll be #4 Penn St vs #1 Oregon).

Unranked Syracuse upsets #6 Miami knocking them out of the ACC Championship game (It'll be #12 Clemson vs #9 SMU).

#3 Texas beats #20 Texas A&M - will play #6 Georgia in the SEC Championship game (Georgia beat Georgia Tech in an OT thriller Friday night).

#13 Alabama beats Auburn - will they get an at-large berth with three losses?

#14 ASU beats Arizona securing a spot in the Big 12 Championship game. #17 Iowa St beats #25 Kansas St but needs help from #19 BYU. BYU is playing Houston in a late one in Provo - they win & Iowa St is in. They lose & #23 CU would get in.

Go BSU!
Jeanty is fantastic! 2,288 yards, 28 TDs (after sitting out several 4th Qs (and a few second 1/2s) to rest him for the end of the season.

Translation from NCAA.com

Here's what the 12-team field would look like

Only a handful of games remain before the final CFP field is decided, but if the season ended today, this would be the tournament bracket:

HOW IT WORKS: Here's everything you need to know for how the 12-team CFP works

Top four seeds

1 seed — No. 1 Oregon
2 seed — No. 2 Texas
3 seed — No. 8 SMU
4 seed — No. 10 Boise State

Oregon and Texas stay put as the top two seeds after both teams won last week. However, SMU replaces Miami as the highest-ranked ACC team, earning the No. 3 seed after the Hurricanes lost. Boise State holds steady as the fourth seed, projected over the highest-ranked Big 12 team, Arizona State.

First round games

(12 seed) No. 15 Arizona State at (5 seed) No. 3 Penn State
(11 seed) No. 11 Alabama at (6 seed) No. 4 Notre Dame
(10 seed) No. 9 Indiana at (7 seed) No. 5 Georgia
(9 seed) No. 7 Tennessee at (8 seed) No. 6 Ohio State

Big games for the ACC & Big 12 conference championships. The loser of the Big 12 game is definitely out. In the ACC, if SMU loses - I think they could be out (if Clemson loses, they're definitely out). The losers of the the SEC & Big 10 games will still be in the playoffs (those games are essentially for the byes & seeding). When all is said & done, we'll have to see where the committee ranks Alabama - do they get an at large bid with 3 losses & not playing in the conference championship?

Your prediction, please: Loser of Big 10 and SEC games....I believe both teams still make the playoffs, but do you think they get a home or an away game?

BSU took care of business, but their O didn't look too great in the second half (maybe the 21-0 halftime score lulled them too much).

What a day in college ball with some exciting, edge-of-your-seat championship games! With the exception of the ASU blowout of Iowa St, the other 3 games were barn burners:

Oregon beats Penn St in a high-scoring shootout.

Clemson beats in SMU with a 56 yd walkoff FG by an 18 yr old Freshman kicker! (sign him up in the NFL!).

Georgia beats Texas in OT with their backup QB, sophomore "Gunner" Stockton (5-star recruit out of Georgia), who played the entire 2nd half for the injured Carson Beck. In OT, "Gunner" on 3rd & long, takes off for a game winning 1st dn holding onto the ball after getting blasted by one of the hardest hits that I've ever seen in college football!

Alabama's undoing was that very bad loss to Vanderbilt back in Oct. It's been a long time that we've seen a 3 loss Bama team. They're definitely missing Saban. Another season like this with no playoffs and I think DeBoer is gone.

Here the CFP's final top 25 before the highest ranked conference champions & the Group of 5 were factored in & the playoff format set.

Here's the top four, which would have been the playoff teams under the old system:

1. Oregon
2. Georgia
3. Texas
4. Penn St

If the national champion comes from one of these teams, which I think it will, then the extended playoff format is not that big of a deal. And in the last several championships, the winner has been either the #1 or #2 ranked team. Food for thought.
