Texas choked with 4 attempts near the goal line to tie the game late in the 4th only to fumble with OSU scooping it up for a score. Both Ewers & Howard threw the ball well & played solid games. If Ewers declares for the draft or transfers, it'll be the Arch Manning show next year

Should be a great final - the Big 10 vs Independent ND. The last time OSU & ND played was in 2023 where #7 OSU squeaked by #16 ND 17-14.

Ohio St wins it's 9th national championship. Ryan Day wins his first putting a nice finish to a great season filled with some adversity. Day has been one of the more successful coaches at OSU in a short time going 70-10 & 46-5 in conference play in just 6 seasons.

The expanded playoffs worked which allowed OSU & ND to make the postseason who were outside of the CFP final 4 rankings before seeding (ND #5 & OSU #6). On the negative side of things, the bye doesn't seem to provide any benefit as all 4 bye teams lost in the quarterfinals.

Maryland 4-0 start to the season.

The winningest coach in Oklahoma St football history (170-90). Several Big 12 titles & bowl wins. Inducted into the Oklahoma Sports Hall of Fame. Played QB there & worked his way up to HC. First bad season last year at 3-9 (0-9 conference). Truly a legend in Oklahoma St football history.

Huge blow to the Sooners - could be out for at least a month. Oklahoma undefeated currently ranked #7. Top dual-threat QB in FBS & Heisman favorite. Apparently injured his throwing hand in the 1st qtr of the Auburn game & played the entire game (I watched the game & never noticed any obvious signs of an injury).

But even worse, my Nittany Lions have lost two in a row!
How about 3 in a row & the firing of James Franklin!

Wow...shock waves through FBS. I guess losing to Northwestern when you're a 21 pt favorite was the last straw. A $50m buyout on his contract? And on top of that, they lose Drew Allar to a season-ending leg injury.

Semifinalist in the college football playoff earlier this year and kicked to the curb.
Preseason they were ranked No 2....which bothered me because I never thought Drew Allar was all that great. I never wish injury on any player, but I thought a school like Penn State must have someone better to choose from.

Who to hire next?

If Allar would have come out for the draft this year, he was projected as a 1st rounder. I've talked about him before on the NFL thread. He's a clone of Josh Allen: Identical size, elite arm strength, excellent mobility & athleticism - a top mobile pocket passer. His stats were impressive last year playing in a tough conference like the Big 10 (compare his stats to Josh Allen's when he was at Wyoming). Granted, his stats this year at this juncture weren't quite on par as last year's but still above-average in accuracy & passer rating. This injury sounds like a significant setback for him & could jeopardize his high-draft potential:

The backup QB they have is Ethan Grunkemeyer - RS FR who's a 4-star recruit & was selected to the HS Elite-11 competition. Anytime you have HS kid make the Elite-11, that's something special because only the top 20 or so HS QBs are invited to that competition every year. If they can develop him, he could their starter over the next couple of years.

Injured or not I can't see Allar ever having been considered a first round pick.
How many times have you watched him play? I have only watched the big games these last few years...OSU, Michigan, Oregon.... and I was never impressed.

Throwing 4 TDs against Maryland or Iowa....big deal.

He,, and former coach Franklin, just can beat quality competition.

We can revisit Allar's draft position in April
