Coronavirus: How dangerous a threat?

No idea who you are in a discussion with for vax. The topic of discussion is other treatments for covid itself. There are things being developed and tested. The point made was the NIH is involved with a study in the use of ivermectin. Regardless of the size of this study why would the NIH be involved with it at all if it was just a horse dewormer? You posts does not follow any of that and makes no sense to me so I will ignore.
I think really to have any intelligent exchange about vaccine technologies, current vaccines in use, each variant is of equal or greater importance. So in this endless whack-a-mole argument that you and I engage in..the vaccine is already being used in an off label application and we are not 2 years on.
The basics still exist, access to health care, access to vaccine and then an expansive list of variables,

I feel like your negativity is showing. All of the the above and below should have been the approach from the beginning. My point stands. You can't argue with facts and in this case if it was just a animal dewormer why bother? Answer is that it never was just a dewormer, yet many tried to pretend it was. Same with monoclonal antibodies, why ration why discount and not provide better press? Answer is complicated right?

Death dealer spoke today on the future of deaths with the unvaxed. It is so disapointing he would do such a thing.
I've been saying for months that this was going to be a terrible winter for the unvaccinated. You might not want to hear it, but that is true. And the news that the flu vaccine will not match the H3 strain in circulation is further bad news for hospitals. Much better to get a free vaccine and avoid having to take any therapies.

People only started calling it animal dewormer when people started taking horse preparations of the drug. They brought it on themselves.

Your in a discussion with Unchained? I mean I am pro vax.
The death stories you guys tout is not a good look at all. Promote the vax and stop prognosticating about deaths would be a good thing.

You still don't get that I am not against vax? You are trying to sell me on vaccines that I already say everyone should get. I have had the vax and the booster. I will no longer respond to the nonsense.

Well it appears the masks work against the flu, so I intend on wearing them during flu season anyway.

As I posted in the summer, our farm supply stores, and vets were sold out because you know, that's safer than other options. o_O

Pigeonholing and stereotyping. Your views sound similar to mine. Likewise I didn't flinch at getting vaccinated but this doesn't mean I should ignore the negative consequences to the private sector economy, mental health and our freedoms that lockdowns can cause.

Vaccines are our savior, I hate to think where we would be had no vaccines been developed as many were predicting in early 2020.

Yes. You remind me that Medical centers in my location were basically empty after the pandemic arrived. The easy spreading of Colds and flu are the number one reason people got sick and had to see a doctor. But I think thanks also to social distancing and other measures - not just masks.

True, the social distancing and other measures as well. That combination did seem to cut flu/colds drastically.

Let's hope so. "He said that only 1.7 percent of all Omicron cases are being hospitalized, compared to 19 percent of Delta cases earlier in the year" must be heavily influenced by their inability to detect infections, though, or just plain wrong. Hard to compare anything with a number this absurd.

The main problem seems to be the rate of contagion, twice as infectious as Delta which means the hospitals are still filling up with unvaccinated patients but the death rate and the amount of people needing to be ventilated is much less than Delta. A lot of the more vaccinated countries seem to be just accepting it and learning to live with it. Not many are locking down like the Netherlands but it is still straining hospital resources in many places. This variant is causing more stomach aches and headaches while not affecting the lungs so much as the viral load is not as large as with Delta. Matter of time before it becomes the dominant strain as 89 countries have Omicron cases now. The more optimistic researchers seem to think it's the beginning of the end, others are taking a much more cautious view.

Some research from Hong Kong suggests that the Omicron variant multiplies in the throat 70 more times than the original COVID but it's rate of travelling to the lungs is ten times less than the original COVID virus.

Word of warning - Portugal which is 88% vaxxed is going into lockdown after XMAS with a 7 day infection rate of 4,,500 and less than 1000 people hospitalised.

"But now, she said, the first barrier has been largely removed. Denmark's data shows people with two doses to be just as vulnerable to omicron infection as the unvaccinated. Those who've been boosted have better protection - a sign of hope - but meantime some three of four Danes have yet to receive a third dose, making the majority of the country vulnerable."

You can't blame the unvaccinated/recovered when the "fully-vaccinated" are just as vulnerable. And now comes the boosters to save the day? And just how many boosters are going to be needed per year? Two at least? Maybe three? And for those that decline the booster shots wait until they start filling up the hospitals & clinics - it'll be the pandemic of the "fully-vaccinated."

It said before way early on in this thread that you can't vaxx your way out of a coronavirus. This is becoming ridiculous with all these boosters now needed in hope of creating some kind of immunity against the variants. I still believe that natural immunity will eventually win the day.

I read wide range of information about omicron from it is mild to we are doomed. Eric Feigl Ding is biggest alarmist I ve been read yet. Do you know him?
That Dr. Has been and still is an alarmist. Pure panic pusher. PPP
New York City has some of the highest vax rates in the nation. Should be ok.

Or the "hospitalized" might have meant more about going to a clinic and not being Admited over night for care. Regardless the wave is on its way back down and was not prolonged or severe as Delta. Knocking out good news is such a thing to do these days.
