I see no reason to assume Talansky would've been surely outperformed by riders like Peraud or Pinot in this year's TdF had he not crashed. He is a pure GT rider who always gets better as the race progresses.

bingo. it's funny how he goes from a sure top five/possible podium after dauphine to now he won't ever even podium -- just because he fell off his bike in one race.

i have no idea if talansky will ever blossom as his early results seem to indicate but he is practically by the book in terms of GT riding. Good TTer. Good climber. Gets stronger in a 3 week race. good off the bat -- second at l'avenir behind quintana, no?

but he falls off his bike in one race and now he has no future. wow.

Realistically, what chances does Martin have to go on and win a third monument? [/B]Very few have done so recently and it mostly goes L-B-L/Lombardia or Roubaix/Flanders with Milan San Remo possibly being the middle ground. Dan showed he has one hell of a kick after a long hard day in the saddle but I just don't believe that M-S-R is selective enough for him to challenge there.

His chances are very good. He has proven that he has a pretty good kick after many hours in the saddle (and he seems to know how to time his attack pretty well) - And he showed he can kick on the uphill (LBL) and somewhere flatter (Lombardia.) His greatest enemy is himself. He needs to stay on the bike. I hope he doesn't become like G. Thomas who seems to be constantly falling....If he stays upright he'll most likely win another monument.

thinking about it, fleche has the only finish where you can't crash in the last corner :p

i hope he will win amstel too in his career, really like him

Menchov uphill but was going around a corner. I think Martin has more chance with Amstel Gold as long as Valverde is not on his wheel or Gerrans.

He certainly seems to be building his form nicely at the moment. He could do some real damage this time next month at the Ardennes. Anyone know what he's got planned between now and then?

Don't know but last year he went altitude training in the weeks before hand.

As I posted in the Clinic thread not realising he had one here..

Worlds 2013 - DNF
Amstel 2014 - DNF
Liege 2014 - No explanation necessary
Giro 2014 - DNF
Worlds 2014 - DNF
Fleche 2015 - DNF

Shame :(

It makes it all the more surprising that he's finished in the WT Points top 10 for the last three years.

And:
Tour 2013 - illness and losing a very likely top10 spot overall in the last week
Vuelta 2013 - DNF
Lombardia 2013 - crash and losing 3rd to Majka

Seems to be something more than just bad luck. :(

Definitely a bummer. I was hoping he would win LBL. IMO when one has this many problems, part of it has to be poor bike handling skills. I understand there is some bad luck involved but still....

Yeah at this stage it's probably many things, he has had so many crashes so he probably has a lack of confidence, his bike handling skills clearly don't seem to be up there with the best and he has tendency to fall ill but has somewhat gotten over his allergies with medication but it just makes you wonder how much more he could have achieved thus far if he had more consistency :(
