DAOTEC could be successfully replaced by a bot.

I was just thinking whether its possible that Daotec was a robot. They had that robot play a chess match 15 years ago and there was one on a quiz show last week.

It makes sence on a number of levels.

He never displayed much emotion, (though many emotion smileys).

He dug out threads from months, even years ago to add news bulletins.

Mainly posted news bulletins.

He rarely commented outside his own threads.

He rarely expressed his opinion.

He broke in and out of languages.

His writing was poor.

His understanding was poor.

Defended his posts even when they were wrong

Now, with the aid of google translate, DAOTEC can be replaced.

Tbh he wouldn't have bothered me if he wasn't so self-righteous about things that were rumour being posted as fact before they were announced, and if he didn't go back and draw attention to those times he'd been first to something, as if it validated him. He would spew up every bit of news he found from trawling a lot of sources, so it's no wonder he was first of us a lot of the time. And I'm impressed that Susan in particular put up with him, as he'd be jostling her when his news was right, moan when she asked him not to present rumour as fact (or at least provide a source for the rumour that he was presenting as fact) and sarcastically use endearing terms. I could never be a mod because I would have lost my temper and temp-banned him or deleted his posts out of spite in her position.

DAOTEC was great to have around in terms of presenting those rumours and doing the work of trawling the sites all over for things on the rumour mill. But he needed to learn a thing or two about playing well with others.

See I agree with all of that. When he was insisting Huschovd was going to Pegasus and was stating it as fact complete with photos in his own indomitible style, I also knew for a fact that he wasnt going to Pegasus. Dao had an amazing knack of being patronising beyond belief and telling you that you were wrong (even when you knew you were not) and insulting your credibility. When he was eventually proven wrong his reply would be nonsensical sentances and a lot of smileys. I like you am surprised that Susan held her patience with him. He pushed her buttons on more than one occasion questioning her credibility as a journalist.

(he also had a wonderful habit of making random posts, and then two hours later going back and putting the subject of cycling news stories in those posts so it looked like he had broken the news 2 hours before CN had, when in fact he had just taken their story and inserted it into one of his old posts.) He would even steal stories other people had posted (he did this to me more than once) and put the text in his post so it looked like he had broken the story before them.

but, its easy to speak ill of the dead.

I don't know about that (but readily believe it), but I did laugh at the Algarve thread when I posted about the Prémio Cidade de Loulé and a couple of live ticker updates, then went to post the results only to find that he'd got there first. I know that jornalciclismo (where the ticker was) is one of the sites he trawls, but I was impressed at how much determination he shows to be first to news in something that, no matter how much I may love the domestic scene in Portugal, is frankly pretty irrelevant.

the very fact that his ban generated so many responses in no time with many downright supporting him, tells me he belongs to this community as controversial as dio is/was.

me ? i got irritated a couple of times by his unfounded, baseless comments behind what was supposed to be a 'you decide' cold news.

still, on balance, i feel dio was adding value.

i'd tell the chap:

'look, buugger, you've got to fix your style, forget about suckopuupppets, and come back after YOU tell us you've fix it. this community wants you but clean'

Full agreement on this post!

I wonder what forum this is, and whether his Dutch spelling and grammar is as atrocious as his English was at times (now, I don't claim to be perfect, I make my fair share of mistakes, but most of what I write is understandable, or at least I hope so :p)
You've never been introduced to the wonderful "Prikbord"?!

Ooh yes, but ran away screaming before really reading too much over there :p

None of his posts are readable anymore over there

Prikbord? "sting-board"?

Another classic DAO moment I just remembered - his list of the Movistar roster for 2011 that kept swelling and contracting as rumours were added and quashed, including Contador, Rujano, Valverde, Henao and many others appearing and disappearing... yet somehow always managed to include Eusebio Unzué as a rider. That was brilliant.

Bulletin board.

And yes I remember that as well, with these lists not changing even when several of the people on the list were proven to not be on movistar. The only respons Daotec gave in those cases, "oh no? Wait, they coming" or something like that.

Or insisting on Movistar CT riding the World Tour races in Canada.

but to be fair to daotec, one other top poster was given a lenient ban (or rather a pardon) for the crime of sockpupetting and i think we would all agree that this forum is a lot better with TSF than it would be without it.

The difference was that TSF didn't have that sockpuppet in waiting throughout his normal posting activities and hadn't used it more than once in the past. Without going over old ground too deeply, TSF only created his to try to discuss a suspension he received with the person that gave it to him. He only posted in one thread and didn't try to post elsewhere or cause disruption.

We only need one post with that gif in it thanks!

Did Scribe get infractured for posting that gif? If not, he should IMO. Give him 7 days on the sidelines to think about what he just did :p

Yes scribe, this was in jest, nothing personal :D

Think of it in terms of giving BPC a second or third chance. Which I think you guys did. But give CHAOTEC a month off to think about it. If he gets it, he'll come back under normal circumstances. If he doesn't, he'll either try to come back early again, or never again at all (sore or just lost the link to the forum).

I give him a 30% of a normal recovery, the other 95% chance of totally missing or abusing the opportunity.

I don't think this is a better place for his ban.I say give him a job as a mod(that should be punishment enough).

As a silent, banned and not involved observer, I can make an accurate summary:

This is how a mod handles his defeat.
Daotec banned - one of the VIPs of this forum. And I mean VERY IMPORTANT.
Not just very important.

Free Daotec - ban some mods !
- that abuse their "power",
- that just waited for him beeing desperately human (sockpuppet) in this tricky and hot situation and then ban him till end of days
- that even step on him afterwards when he can't fight back any more

bah,bah,bah

I'll miss your information, Daotec, and of course you too.

Give this guy 2 weeks and watch and sanction all parties involved next time. But hey, SSDD. Mods and their friends can't get bans, can they ?

Now you can ban me again for telling the truth.

Interesting notion, which moderators do you want to see banned and for what reason?

And mods can be banned, I have been banned some time ago myself:p

My posts are always interesting if you use both eyes and both brain halves.
I won't have to go into details, because actually you know what I am talking about, don't you ?

Do you at least feel a little bit guilty or why did you answer ? Would be the first step on the long journey of getting back respect.

BTW, will thehog be banned now or does he have a damn good explanation for his Lancelove in the Riccothread ?
Glad to hear a clarification from you ! I know you'll find one !
I hope he doesn't use a sockpuppet during his ban. THIS would be a REAL loss for this forum. Who cares about Daotec ?

And a little hint for you:
Don't overdo it with your desperate tries to look objectively and bringing "order" to discussions. You can't get back in a few days what you missed for a long time only by using the koevoet now.
Het valt op.
