http://cyclingtips.com/2015/08/a-conversation-with-uci-president-brian-cookson-tour-de-france-froome-mtn-qhubeka-night-time-testing-motors-and-more/Cookson: We see some of the underdogs, if I can call them that, in the peloton coming up and getting stage wins. People like Steve Cummings, Simon Geschke. That has been great to see.
QS: You mentioned Steve Cummings’ win. It has been a huge Tour for MTN-Qhubeka. This whole continent is taking off now. What are your thoughts on that?
Cookson: It is absolutely great. It is really exciting for us at the UCI. We have got five ex World Cycling Centre trainees in the Tour de France doing great rides. It is great to see the guys from Africa, South America and various parts of the world coming through now.
We are seeing cycling globalised a lot more strongly now. It is going to take time, perhaps we have lagged behind other sports in that, but I think it is really exciting. For instance, in the way that Daniel Teklehaimanot has been received by the crowds and the media and so has been absolutely enthralling and rewarding for those of us who want to see cycling grow as a global sport

Impressive for this new young rider from Dimension Data
if that button is meaningless, as some here want to believe, it is all the more remarkable that guys like cummings and froome have the awareness to press that allegedly meaningless button right before the finish line, just having solo'd their way to said finish line.Tienus said:https://youtu.be/K02id-nOz_o?t=7m26s
At 7:30 his thumb goes to the G spot

Isn't this just the sort of plucky move that we like to see in cycling?
Who would have been the deserving clean winner, if not Cummings?
Ramon Koran said:410W for 30 minutes is not excessive at all, especially for a former track specialist. Sure the numbers are high but its still within the realms of believable.
Cummings has been an elite rider for a decade on the track. Sure his performances are suspicious but most ikely down to weight loss which probably acheived thanks to PED's. However talk about motors is nonsense with thermal imaging being organised. No way can you hide mototrized doping no more.PremierAndrew said:Ramon Koran said:410W for 30 minutes is not excessive at all, especially for a former track specialist. For an elite cyclist, sure, it's believable. But for someone like Cummings, who didn't have anywhere near this much success until 2015?
5.6W/kg is definitely believable, but if I managed to pull out 5.6W/kg for 30 minutes within just a month from now, I'll share a little secret with you, I wouldn't be doing that without significant doping and probably some help from a motor too

that changes nothing if you can push 410 w for 30 min on the flat, you can do the same in the mountains.Benotti69 said:Ramon Koran said:410W for 30 minutes is not excessive at all, especially for a former track specialist. Sure the numbers are high but its still within the realms of believable.
Except it was up a Cat 1 climb and not a track, but hey lets not let details get in the way.

El Pistolero said:Stephen Cummings could have podiumed the Giro with numbers like that. Assuming he could keep it up for 3 weeks of course. Ridiculously high numbers for a 35 year old non-climber who only had 8 professional wins (of which 6 were small shitty wins as Cav would say) before 2016. 4 wins in 2016 already, all in high profile WT races.
