Stage 4 should fit Roglic perfectly, but it's also one of these finishes where they would ride for Van Aert in the Dauphine last year. Bit curious what they'll do there.

I think only MvdP and Alaphilippe are real threats for them at that finish.

Rog to Tirreno? F*ck yeah!

(first post of 2023, had to make it insightful)

I'm in the same boat. My posting hiatus is coming to an end after (what seemed anyway) like a really long off season.

Anyway, what a nice surprise this morning to see Rogla on the Tirreno startlist. To me it shows he's recovered well from his operation & is good to go. They wouldn't take any chances, that's for sure.

Strong team as well. Let's hope the weather isn't too bad.

It's obviously the right decision given that the shoulder is healthy. He finish 3 weeks in altitude so if he didn't race he would just be training at home with a good condition for 2 weeks before Catalunya

7 race days would be too little before Giro, and now he can do ITT in full race conditions and see how is the TT setup before the Giro. Some race days on Italian roads, and the team has good options for GC, so it would be a good way to build some racing form for his face-off with Remco at Catalunya without pressure or stressful racing conditions.

Giro-Tour double is indeed the hardest double. We can agree on that. As for if Rogla is too old for it or if the competition is too strong. To be determined on the road.

Great news and it looks like nothing is set in stone this season. After Pogi switched to PN and looking at JV TA squad. I was thinking they might move van Aert to PN. But now the vacancy has been filled by Roglič. And on paper they have a squad capable of tackling with climbers at TA too. Roglič said he is healthy and training went good. He could hence sit at home or do some racing. Facing Adam Yates for some feedback. Considering Evenpoel was a mammoth on the final climb at UAE. And Rogla is older. Some proper ITT and punchy finales. On top of that the climbers in variety. This should be a nice all round test.

Now i guess a lot of work during the weekend on my side. For after being able to enjoy TA and PN. Luckily i trained hard from January. Hence i will be able to offer some proper support for Rogla.

Many people are writing that Rogla is getting old and some are suggesting his best days are already behind him. I do not believe this to be the case. Maybe around 38ish one starts to drop off, but at 33 he is still in his prime. Another factor is the motivation. I believe he is still quite motivated to train and to win. And usually the motivation is the first thing to disappear for many cyclists (rather than inability due to age).
But, let us see how he fares at Catalunya. If he does well, the Giro - Tour double is on the cards.
If thomas with 35/36 years can be in his best shape ever, then roglic will not decline with 33 years.

At some point age will become a factor. But people claiming Roglič is already too old. No data really suggests or backs their claims. Hence for now such claims are utter BS.
As the power analysis data shows a notable decline in 2022 from his 2020/21 heyday (if the Lanterne Rouge website is to be believed), claiming that there's no data to suggest a decline is a bit of a stretch. Whether the decline is due to age or other factors is a point of discussion I guess, but the data is still there and can be used to back up both views.

If we believe clickbait we can believe a helluva lot of things. They ignore so much context around the performances when it suitst hem.
