I know, but the Giro is not to be underestimated. It's not like winning the Tour automatically means you win the Giro if you ride it. The fact that after two years, Pog hasn't won a GT, losing the Tour this time by plus 7 minutes to Vingegaard, means he's third behind Roglic.
Fair take I guess, and not much to be gained by analyzing every detail. For me personally it's just hard to see pog losing to someone who just barely edges out thomas and almeida, but yeah - rog crashed etc pp.

Well, barely is in the end more then enough.

I don't see what roglic has done this year that would put him above Pogacar (ofc talking performance, not results). His best day was probably the giro TT, and I think with a similar performance in the tour tt he would not have gotten close to beating Pog, who demolished everyone bar vinge. All guesswork of course, but like another poster said, its the distance between pog/vinge and the rest of the world that makes it hard to see how anyone could bridge that, although the posters saying that top form roglic is rarely seen because of crashes are right.
An what's this Pog/Vinge and the rest of the world?
One guy demolished the other two times in a row, how are they on the same level?
I mean, Pogacar for me is a better rider than Vingegaard, but in terms of Grand Tours, it is:
Vinge
Pog, Rog

Great season for Rog in 2023. Wins the Giro and every stage race he was in, except for the Vuelta, where he reached the podium and won two stages while not racing all-out in some stages because of team tactics.
Indeed. Only he most likely knows he could have come in better than 3rd in the Vuelta.

Different dynamics true, but Rog hasn't dropped that bad ever, except for crashes. I suppose it comes down to if Primoz wouldn't fold in a straight up competition with Vingegaard.

The most he has ever lost (uninjured) was I think Mortirolo in 2019 Giro? 1:40 or something? And even a portion of that was due to tactical circumstances with stage finishing with some 10 km false flat and Roglic following alone…

I do not agree with your view of Roglic being better that Pog in stage racing, though - even though it’s nice to hear 😁

Wasn't he quite sick that day?

Wasn't that just his sporting director who had to heed the call of nature, and then they couldn't assist him when he had a mechanical?
Both of them had digestion related issues, apparently 😁

To be honest, I had to check again to make sure I didn’t confuse things, but here it is:

»V nedeljo sem imel slab dan,« je Primož Rogličmiren in zbran v krogu šefov priznal na včerajšnji novinarski konferenci. »Nisem bil najbolj pri moči, imel sem želodčne težave,« je še razkril

Lazy translation: On Sunday, I had a bad day. I was not at my best, I had stomach issues…

Okay, but I'm quite sure they hadn't gone away in week 3. I have seen him say that the podium in the Giro was the result he was the most proud of of all his results because he had been so sick yet somehow had fought through.
