Yes, before stage 20 for insurance. Carapaz is sneaking in there as a threat, too.Yes, but to be safe. Rogla could do with a minute more on Mas.
....It's the whatnot that always concerns his fans; or it should.Today was more on the attritional side and O'Connor still dropped a minute. If I'm Roglic I'm more wary of a Mas counter than not putting more time into O'Connor, although I absolutely want to lead by a full minute come time trial just because I don't wanna be *** around with no mechanicals and what not.
If the team is strong enough (perhaps with some help from Movistar) to keep the break in check on Friday’s stage Roglic could easily grab a win plus bonus seconds and provide all the cushion he needs going into the TT. Picon Blanco is the tougher climb but I think that Sat will be much too hard to control.Yes, before stage 20 for insurance. Carapaz is sneaking in there as a threat, too.

As Rogla would have put it - always better to gain a minute than lose a minute😁Yes, but to be safe. Rogla could do with a minute more on Mas.
The opposition doesn't have the team strength to pose much of a threat. In fact Roglic has the strongest team himself.I think at this point & looking at what's coming, most predictions in a GT are always more 'theoretical' in nature, i.e. in the sense it's always based on worst case scenario versus best case scenario.
I'm seeing a lot of talk about stage 20 being some sort of mythical uncontrollable raid stage (like the one which made Superman Lopez rage quit 3 years ago) but honestly, we just don't know.
As always I'm way more concerned with incidents/crashes etc. because so far, this Vuelta has been peachy in that regard. I guess the 20 second drama on Sunday was as close as we've been to some typical Rog mid-GT soap opera.
But other than that he's racing brilliantly IMO.
Looks like i misunderstood your meaning. From the other poster i got the impression you meant he needed to have 1m25s in hand before the TT. But you meant he needed to make up his current deficit. Is this supposed to tell me Mas will spank O'Connor on Sunday or something? I'm not seeing it.
It's a pan flat 24km ITT. Hell, I don't even expect Rog to pull big gaps versus the other GC podium contenders either.
He has but it's still ideal to have EF and Movistar trying to put pressure on O'Conner. They gotta know that it's not Bora's job for the next few stages and need to save face. The opposition doesn't have the team strength to pose much of a threat. In fact Roglic has the strongest team himself.
Just has to win next year to be solo record holder. He is on his way to become Vuelta's record holder. Impressive!
I think that makes sense, I also don’t really expect big changes anymore. He’s fully in control, the rest is already focused on 2nd place, he can just cruise alongI've seen a few comments here and there about how Rog didn't respond immediately to attacks yesterday and some gaps opened up.
Call it copium but from a tactical point of view if you're letting the others pull you away from O'Connor and create a gap, it makes 'sense' to tempo back onto the wheels because if he jumped immediately, Mas would stop attacking.
That's how I see it anyway (I'm posting this because Chris Horner thinks Rog suffered on Covadonga).
I also agree here. I think he didnt throw all in and kept some power just to follow the others. I think Chris Horner exagerates a bit in his stage reviewI think that makes sense, I also don’t really expect big changes anymore. He’s fully in control, the rest is already focused on 2nd place, he can just cruise along
And vice versa. Roglic never takes the easy path. One never knows. Roglic has a way of snatching defeat from the jaws of victory.
Now that I've thought about it, vice versa is much more common for him. Giro 2023, Vuelta 2020, Tirreno 2019 (or was it 2018, the one he won against Yates), Dauphine 2024, Itzulia 2021 & 2018, P-N 2022 (snatched victory from the jaws of defeat) against Tour 2020 and PN 2021 (defeat fromthe jaws of victory). By the way - these were actually all races with last stage drama for Rogla. And I probably forgot a couple... He's like Hitchcock of cycling. And vice versa. Roglic never takes the easy path.
If that's true, that doesn't really bode well for this Vuelta... 😰Now that I've thought about it, vice versa is much more common for him. I fully expect another dose of catharsis to be honest... Not to be a doomsayer, but statistically it's highly likely there will be a moment when we all think his Vuelta is lost. Luckily, it's also highly likely it won't be.If that's true, that doesn't really bode well for this Vuelta... 😰
