Here's an interesting article on the current state of affairs re Rog's transfer & the situation at Jumbo: https://escapecollective.com/report...-buyout-clause-and-the-jumbo-merger-dominoes/

Jumbo want 5 million euros compensation. He has a 2 million euro salary. Jumbo has a 25 million (!) black hole in their finances.

It's all a bit desperate tbh & I think with a little bit of hindsight, someone should ask what in the name of hell Plugge was doing at Jumbo with their money in recent years, i.e. for example bringing in some high earners (van Baarle, Dennis, Benoot) last year. Bringing in Jorgensen for next year & also re-signing Vingegaard on a long term deal when none of this was future proof.

It's an incredible story & the consequences are going to be huge (like the total annihilation of Quick-Step, for starters). And of course Rog leaving his own team for a few reasons, i.e. one of which is because they're broke.

Not at INEOS, there's Rodriguez
Not at Lidl, there's TGH

Rodriguez can't do what Rog can do, so it's a moot point, at least in the immediate future. The road always shows who's best. In that regard Rog has nothing to be concerned about with Rodriguez.

The finances for Roglic leaving don't make any sense tbh. If Jumbo are in a huge hole financially, they shouldn't have a leg to stand on to demand 5 mill.

Maybe they don't? i.e. maybe everyone is playing a game of poker now.

Who blinks first, wins. Maybe teams know he'll leave & don't want to pay; whilst maybe some contradictory reports were put out (with the help of some insiders...) about potential destinations (Ineos, Movistar, Trek) in order to provoke one of his suiters into paying up.

Like a football transfer. Who knows, but it's getting pretty crazy right now (the wild stories online about the whole Jumbo situation).

I blame it all on that Chris Horner who's been stirring it all up since the Spring - "Roglic must leave Jumbo if he wants to be team leader at the Tour" .... :)
Not exactly a unique observation…but that pretty much describes every one of Horner’s frenetic missives…

This would've been the ultimate RaboFail.

If the merger is dependent on Roglic's compensation payment and the savings from his salary then he has the opportunity to do something hilarious, go full-Gareth Bale.
