I'm pretty indifferent towards the number cause they're so incomparable and this doesn't mean at all he can win the Tour. It barely makes a difference to that.

I'm happy because all the talk about leaving Jumbo and being washed and *** can be done with now. No vengeance for the Tour or anything, but winning a Vuelta after last year is *** nice too.

Yep.

Also just seeing the Red Bull Bora team working together like that as a well oiled machine was pretty damn cathartic considering what happened one year ago. People said he was downgrading when he left Visma. Well, apparently not. It's pretty damn sweet to see everyone working together & pulling for Rog like that (& Vlasov showing last year's 'problem' with Uijtdebroeks was entirely a one way street from the other guy).

And whilst I don't want to jinx anything but if this win happens it'll be up there with his greatest GT wins. Definitely in terms of performance so far (I actually think this is an even stronger Rog performance than 2021 Vuelta tbh).

Bora has stepped up big time. Rogla is repaying their investment. Today's launch with Lipowitz, Vlasov and Martinez was incredible. In the space of 5km Bora turned the Vuelta on its head and have everyone comparing Roglic to the best ever climbing performances.

Roger Adria was terrible the first few days but has really stepped up the last few stages. Lipowitz didn‘t do anything to launch Roglič today except for letting the wheel go.

Huge performance from Roglic. Great to see! Carapaz did slightly better than in 2020, but Roglic has leveled up and he has not. It could all fall apart tomorrow, or course, but assuming he finishes this well this has to feel great. Last year he wasn’t allowed to ride for the win at the Tour as a fully supported rider (correct move by TJV IMO but not good for my guy Roglic), he then had his record tying Vuelta taken from him by the team, this year he had early season struggles then crashed out of the Tour…and yet here he is about to close out his fourth Vuelta with a huge long range attack with huge power for the doubters. He has attacked all Vuelta when it made sense, defended well when it made sense, overcome back pain, and shown that while, sure, he isn’t on Pogi 2024 Tour level, he is about as good as GC guys get.

Ha ha, if Roglic can be believed in his interview - he was once again forced, against his will, to follow his teammates and go for the win :tearsofjoy:
I’m pretty sure it’s just his deadpan humor, triggered by the fact two RB guys were pulling while the rest of them were in the middle of the pack…

Beautiful stage win and the team performance through the whole stage. Rogla riding a level above the rest and especially the good spirit in the team, that is something to deeply cherish. Demanding stage ahead today.

Chapeau!

Happy Vlasov and Martinez are in his team. Apparently after the race he said he didn’t want to attack and ride aggressively, classic Roglic, but his teammates forced him to go for it. He was happy though, so hopefully this changes his view in general.

He said he didn’t want his team to control the break for the stage win not that he didn’t want to attack on the final climb.

I understood this as also the coup they did with Vlasov and Martinez but maybe I misread that
I think you did. That would have been a pretty serious coup with Roglic potentially blowing up due to their pace being too strong for him - despite telling them so. They would have essentially destroyed their race for no reason whatsoever.

That’s too strong even for a joke.

Yes, but...

RB hired him to contend for the Tour, where until his Stage 12 (unavoidable, I agree) crash he was definitely a notch below Pog and Vingegaard (hard to say how he'd have finished vs Remco, and maybe if he climbed like this he might have even topped Vingegaard).

Not that it was a bad investment, and I'm a Rog fan, but realistically this is not exactly what RB/Bora had in mind. I"m sure they're happy but at the same time, I'm also sure that more was expected.

We should not assume that only fans were realistic in saying that, although he's great, it would be hard for him to compete against those two young studs at the peak of their power, but Bora didn't know that?

I know there was a lot of pre-season talk about them focusing on the TdF, but in my opinion, with him, they got more than just a potential TdF win - suddenly, everyone started talking about Bora, they got immediate media exposure, they became relevant. With him, they gained instant experience, a winning culture, and a solid foundation to build something great for the long term (when he won't be part of the team anymore).

Even without him winning the TdF, that's an investment that's paying off, because what's a few millions for RB compared to what he brings to the table that will shape the team for years to come? If he wins the Vuelta, and it seems like he will, it will just be the cherry on top.

(that's how I see things)

The true is Jonas and Tadej are not available so Roglic is the obvious pick to get. Nibali won a Tour because Froome and Contador crashed out, the same can happen again and Roglic is the number one favourite.

As for the stage win, that was not planned as being a necessity, before stage, Rogla hence being forced into winning by his team members deciding so. Back is luckily under control and less pain is involved.

As for Rogla being selected as a primus bull and not some other rider in the peloton. He is a stud, that is on why. Some of you wondering on why didn't they select some young gun instead. They already had a plethora of that, they needed somebody with more experience, especially in leading the pack, Rogla perfect candidate for such job, no other candidate more suitable for that.

I think next season is absolute last chance to win the TDF. He won’t do it if Pog and Vingo are there and are in good form, even if he himself is also in good form. He’s gonna be 35 in November. I don’t see him winning there unless those two aren’t there or both of them collapse.

I agree. I think he should target Flèche Wallone, Suisse, Tour, Vuelta. He has proven he can win the Vuelta after riding (or crashing out of) the Tour so why not.
