What happened yesterday since he DNF?
Only 54 finished the race. All the others DNF including Remco, Rogla, etc. Weather was horrible and they were out of the fight for win anyway. What happened yesterday since he DNF?
Great post! And this is what Remco diehard fans can't tolerate. Their boy will never win big races consistently because Pogacar is here until he retires (barring a career ending crash). Pogacar is only 16 months older than Remco.Pog isn't even Rog's problem. He's going to be 35. He's had an amazing career (especially when you consider his origins in the sport). I mean.. chapeau Rog, really. 5 times GT winner & 88 career wins. Insane.
So no, Pog isn't his problem. Now for riders who're between 23 & 30... then yeah, Pog is a serious issue. He's everyone else's bogeyman. Aka The Baba Yaga of the peloton. Forget winning big races when Pog is on the startlist.
I am sure that Rogla is still going to win races, regardless of who is on the start list. It comes with the age. For season 2024 it's important to win an one day race event. That would cement the migration from JV as being a total success.
Lol, he won Olympics double and WC ITT. He’s fine.Great post! And this is what Remco diehard fans can't tolerate. Their boy will never win big races consistently because Pogacar is here until he retires (barring a career ending crash). Pogacar is only 16 months older than Remco.
@Rackham
Still at his old team he was winning one day race events too, and AFAIK still being the last monument winner for the team. Personally i feel that Il Lombardia was the main goal all along and Rogla is using Worlds and beyond as prep races. Pogi is fatigued as it gets already and Remco likely won't peak again to such extend he would be able to beat Rogla. Descending good will be crucial this year, a lesson leaned from the last year. There is a section in there on where one will have to be top notch. We'll see.
He can win another Olympics double next year.Lol, he won Olympics double and WC ITT. He’s fine.
I'm all for some daydreaming about a result on Saturday... it's just I'm also a realist. I think the problem is Pog. It's not even just a straightforward case of racing for second when Pog is untouchable. The problem is when there's a group behind Pog after he's dropped everyone, it becomes rapidly uncontrollable and anyone can get on the podium of a one day race when everyone is racing for second.
I mean if things were simple to the point Rog could go for second or third on Saturday in Lombardia, then fine, go for it. But that's not the way these races unfold behind Pog when he's so dominant. Especially this year, aka the further away from the line his attacks are, the more uncontrollable things get behind him.
I mean Rogla finished third last year and is likely (building) peaking towards Il Lombardia ever since finishing Vuelta. Anything else then going after the win is hence in my opinion a wasted effort.
But i hear you, what you are trying to say, that is unless Rogla feels super confident that he can drop Pogi on Sormano he should instead adjust the tactics to get relatively fresh to that point of the race and preferably for a "larger" group to go over it together. Then for lets say Dani to set him up on the ultimate climb. For that i feel that letting one (semi) good UAE rider in the relatively weak breakaway early and controlling that through the race, by setting weaker pace, might work. Maybe somebody like Hirschi or Ayuso. As indeed fatiguing Pogi tends not to work, frustrating Pogi might work, though. We'll see.
Rogla will apply long-range defence. He tried it in Emillia but next time it should be better.
175 kilometers and no Pog, now that‘s a Rogla-friendly one-day race
I thought this was the "shamelessly wheelsuck Evenepoel" race.175 kilometers and no Pog, now that‘s a Rogla-friendly one-day race
That really sounds like a science fiction these days...I mean Rogla finished third last year and is likely (building) peaking towards Il Lombardia ever since finishing Vuelta. Anything else then going after the win is hence in my opinion a wasted effort.

And I'm saying this as a Rogla fan.
So Rogla and Remco doing Coppa Bernocchi is a nice example of stonewalling Pogi. Smooth move!
It was actually quite good thoughVery exciting race. I'm glad I watched it (this is sarcasm FYI).
