Nah. Mythical peak Remco can hang with peak Roglic but still lose IMO, but the others are not there yet. The young ones might get there someday but not there yet. Almeida is good but overrated.

Almeida did well at last Vuelta and had great Angliru performance. So yeah, I stick to Remco and Almeida but not 100% sure about Lipowitz yet.

He raced well, Pellizzari another excellent showing, not sure about why one guy didn't sacrifice themself for the other. Pidcock is just a smart racer . Bora has some gas but the tactics have not been the best.
What's there to be smart about? Milano Torino is a super atactical race.

The only thing Roglic could've done is not make that boneheaded attack in the first climb.

Optimal tactics would've been nearly completly passive, with probably Pellizzari attacking hard and early on the final climb, and even then the most likely outcome is probably Pidcock winning anyway with Roglic just getting 2nd.

Pogacar says he isn't riding, Del Toro is supporting Pogacar in the Tour so I'm assuming not riding, Vingegaard won't be there, neither will Remco. I'm guessing the allure of the Tour will be too great for Muad'Dib & Decathlon for him to go to the Vuelta. Almeida is targeting the Giro. Lipowitz the Tour. Honestly, who can stop Roglic (except for himself and the tarmac)?

Pogacar didn't say anything. Almeida will race the Vuelta too.

@Berniece @canina82 I might be wrong. I thought he said something to that effect, but I might have hallucinated that out of optimism. He definitely indicated World was his big focus after the Tour, right?
No. I think there is a strong chance he will race the Vuelta tbh, even if I consider that Pogacar has been delaying his presence in the Vuelta due to a heavy schedule.

2 reasons to believe he will race the Vuelta:
1 - 37 race days after the Tour (of course PR is not equal to one flat stage in TdR)
2 - high chance he will cruise in the TdF. Del Toro as a helper and Vingegaard doing the Giro probably means a win like almost his 2024 Giro (even if his opponents are better).

He won't. The Slovenian Cycling Federation has already booked accommodation in Canada for almost 3 weeks, from the end of both Canadian classics until the WC. Pogi will go to Vuelta in 2028.

Thanks for the info. So I am probably wrong however 2027 seems a good year for the Tour-Vuelta combo. There will be 8 weeks between the Tour and the Vuelta. Even if he targets the WC, the preparation is not much different.

I still think there's a possible scenario here where Rog does the Tour.

It'll be dependent on form but if RBBH have selection worries/form worries/issues then an in-form Rog coming out of Romandie is likely to get the nod. That's how it works.

Yesterday was an interesting step in the right direction in any case.

Does Roglic want this himself? He wants to not race for a while after Romandie. That's a big step going the other way to go back to training immediately for TDF

Let's clear this up once and for all. He didn't say that. A Slovenian journalist made this up or misunderstood him, and then all the other media spread this fake news.
In my opinion, if he could get a free role in TdF, he would do it in a heartbeat. But I'm not sure that's good for Vuelta, so I hope he won't race TdF.

My bad, what did he say then?

"Roglič and the RBH team management will only set the exact plan and program of races after the Tour of Romandie (April 28-May 3) all the way to the main goal, Vuelta."

Haha, that's something completely different. Ridiculous take from that Slovenian journalist then. To go from: "We don't know the schedule yet" to: "He doesn't want to race before Vuelta to stay a long period of time with his family"
