Whenever a rider from Astana has won on the Planche des Billes Filles in the tricolore jersey, they have gone on to win the Tour.

Fact.

Yes but isn't there only one: Nibali? Very small sample size :)

How dare you call that thing Nibali was given a tricolore? He was super anxious to wear yellow.

Actually he wore that jersey only on the first stage and the PDBF stage. Aru had some kind words today: "Vincenzo is a friend and I’m happy to win here like he did in 2014. Watching him win in videos helped me know how to ride the climb."

Yeah, and Sheffield. 2/3 in that horror jersey. Aru will wear polkas tomorrow which is a shame.

Really? I was always impressed that he had managed to become Hungarian National champion without being from the country.

The Hungarian jersey must really have motivated him to get rid of the Hungarian jersey, thats the only way I can look at it.

Yeah I was trolling. I suppose Italian champion is a better choice of words.

Those sideburns he has are insane. IN SANE. His climbing and pain face is as well. Please Aru ride into Paris in yellow!

Very impressive ride for Fabio today. If he keeps it up, Aru will be a factor. A big one.

Man.

Aru's abiity to go from 2/3km out and never stop hammering is very underrated. That guy just keeps going when he's off.
Yeah he's always been good at that. Even when he looks bad earlier on a climb he always had that really strong end to a climb.

This punch is how he hit the scene as the new kid on the block back in 2014. He misses it once he's got too little race miles in his legs, preferably doing high intense training blocks instead. That's what certainly has been worrying during the last 2 years. The way he danced and pushed away in the Vosges was impressive in that sight. Although it was just a 2 kilometers outing. He looks very sharp. Hopefully he keeps it up.

So how is his downhill?

Average, I'd say Contador, Richie level.

Contador used to take a lot more risks.

Used to, there's a few good years since he's crashing on the flat mostly and to me it seems he lost all confidence lately. Froome on the other hand is making progress towards Nibali level.

Aru's a former mountainbiker. His descending should be like Rasmussen's.

At least in Dauphine he had lot of difficulties to follow Froome. Actually to the extend Fulgsang had to go past him to close the gap between Froome and Aru.

He seemed rather slow going downhill in the Dauphine indeed. Maybe he was just very cautious because of the crashes earlier this year and didn't want to risk before TdF. But we'll find out this Sunday how fast he really is.
