Aru's a former mountainbiker. His descending should be like Rasmussen's.

At least in Dauphine he had lot of difficulties to follow Froome. Actually to the extend Fulgsang had to go past him to close the gap between Froome and Aru.

Well that no longer looks to be the case. Of the three victors atop Planche des Belles Filles Aru's was the fastest.

Nibali, 2014, did the climb in 16'37"; Froome 2012 in 16'23"; whereas Aru this year did it in 16'13". That's a whopping VAM of 1917.

Can't wait to see Froome suffering again.

 There wasn't any descending on Planche des Belles Filles.

The descents matter little if you can't get to the top of the climb together.

It is slightly confusing that you respond with ascent times to my post where I commented about Aru not able to follow Froome in DESCENTS during Dauphine (because someone asked how he is descenting), but heyho it's not the weirdest thing I've seen in the forum today.

Indeed when you were blathering on about Aru's descending times, when he dropped Froome on the ascent. Duh.

Ok this is getting weirdest I've seen in the forum today...

@rhubroma, you misread a post, it can happen to anyone. No reason to get angry.

What is it with this forum? I didn't misread anything, but chose to refocus the debate to more relevant terms.

How Aru descends is quite secondary to how he climbs and here has shown he's more than got the stuff. Plus I don't believe he will have any problems on the downhill.

I can see why he was confused by your post, rhubroma. When you quote a post, usually it's to comment directly at it, not talk about something else. And your first remark seemed directed at the "descending skills" debate with your proof being that Aru rode away from Froome on the ascent.

But it seems all agree that Aru was strong ascending, and let's say a bit insecure descending.

Hopefully for this race Arus descending in Daauphine misrepresented his real skills.

Re: Re:

Even if Aru gains 10 or even 20s on Froome on Mont du Chat, the descent still matters a lot. Because 1: can Aru hold a gap? And 2: if he can't, will Froome even pass him and put more time into him?
On a wet Mont du Chat descent Froome can gain at least a minute on the worst descenders.

Also, this conversation below had me lol  "At Dauphiné Aru struggled to follow Froome on the downhill" "Well, that no longer seems to be the case because he climbed faster than Froome" :D

You suppose that froome is good descender on wet, that is a little unrpoven fact, he will be very caerfull in wet descent Mont Chat type, it is very dangerous and he will not risk Tour because of that
and Aru is pretty good descender, he is not Nibali but he is not Zakarin, he can descent like Quintana e.g. which is not so bad and one downhill in such race like Dauphine can barely be so significant but it is clear that in fast and power descents froome will have advantage

It's not secondary at all, descending could very easily decide the outcome of the whole race, or at least have a big impact.

Stupid ride today.
A good chance to weaken Froome today. But Aru is happy with 2nd GC.
Today Froome (and porte) was a little stronger. There was not much to do on the Chat

Hope Aru keeps attacking whether there are mechanicals or not, as long as he doesn't whine if the same happens to him.

This, they were stronger and Astana had a brainfart durning the final km.
That attack wasn't exactly the classiest move, I have to admit that.

By sitting up he showed he is still a boy among men. Going through with this attack would have been a clear statement to Froome - if you want to win this Tour, you have to beat me first. He evidently was not ready to make that statement.

I think he was ready, but he didn't want to pull the others along as it became clear they weren't going to take pulls.
