And Tonton at last chooses a none GT winning rider.

Last two climbers are good picks, although two names that I never seriously considered.

I would have picked Virenque if it wasn't for you meddling Burning :D

While waiting for ciranda to post his pick, I watched the Zoncolan stage on YouTube. What a battle that was. Piepoli imposed an insane pace at the end of the climb and cracked Schleck "a la pedale". BTW that version of Andy was pretty darn good.

Popovych Yaroslav 2005 Tour de france for stage 10 alone when The lance casually asked him to up the pace and he did just that.

damn, I wanted Popo! I would've gone with the 2007 version, one of the best (and most obviously doped) domestique performances of all time. dragging Contador and Leipheimer all over the mountains and still managing to finish top-10 overall.

I keep checking back on this thread to see if my favourites have been posted yet. There are quite a few of preposterous individuals not mentioned yet that I'm hoping to get good writeups of.

For my pick I go with Big George, or just simply George Hincapie from the 2005 Tour.

george_hincapie_2005.jpg

Über ridiculous doesn't cover it. As Lance's personal bodyguard during his reign, his usual task was to control things on the flats, however this year he was also able to win the hardest stage in the race and was even talked up as potential captain for the squad after Lance. He is a great all-round dom who has great experience and will be my Capitaine de Route. I had two other riders I considered, but given that this is the doping draft, neither were close to George when it comes to ridiculousness.

Pick 51: ciranda - Dario Frigo ('01 Giro)
Pick 52: Tonton - Leonardo Piepoli ('07 Giro)
Pick 53: - Zam_Olyas - Yaroslav Popovych ('05 Tour)
Pick 54: Netserk - George Hincapie ('05 Tour)
Pick 55: burning -
Pick 56: zlev11 -
Pick 57: TheGreenMonkey -
Pick 58: The Sceptic -
Pick 59: The Hitch -
Pick 60: Libertine Seguros -

That Hincapie could even be entertained as Lance's successor by serious media going into 2006, when he would be 33, with no prior results in stage races and coming from a sprinting background, really illustrates how ridiculous he was. Good pick.

The funniest thing was how as late as 3 years ago hincapie was being described as a clean hero of the sport with an unblemished record. I remember Harmon saying something along the lines of only taking the accusations against lance seriously when big g aknowledge them because ot his top character compared to Landis and tyl.

Had you chosen Big George with a first round pick, nobody would have questioned it.

This is the doping draft, after all.

Dave.

We should probably agree that riders can only be selected for performances prior to the start of the draft, in case somebody goes ballistic in Il Giro.

I was thinking of waiting a couple of weeks on my turn, depending on when burning turns up again, to see if a certain rider goes ballistic in the Giro. ;)

However what you say must be correct.

Burning is like Froome in the mountains of the '10 Giro: really slow but way underrated...

You guys are really fast and it really does not help that I'm super busy with RL stuff these days. :p

Anyway, I select Bobby Julich from '98 Tour as he's a very good TT'er and I need more guys that are strong on flats and can babysit Riis.
