Stefano Locatelli, better climbing data than Contador and Pantani.
Turning pro next year for Colnago

If we're talking solely of GT contenders, I think it's pretty safe to say that Pinot is clearly the most talented based on what we've seen and the level of competetion he has faced.

If we're just discussing "big talents" then Sagan definitely.

I have high hopes for Battaglin as well. He has been very convincing.

The level of competition hasn't been that high though... the only WT race where he surfaced was the Dauphiné. And there he showed something which is not great for a GT contender: he's (still) pretty inconsistent.

i expect to see an epic Roubaix battle Vanmarcke vs Degenkolb in few years (obviously with Sep winning) and i still believe in Romain Sicard who should win the Tour one day, and of course he should do it in the orange jersey of Euskaltel.

I did not include Sagan because I think he is already a star although I think he will become a bigger one.

Pinot, Pinot, Pinot. Vanmarcke to be right up there on the cobbles in 2013. With my British hat on I still have faith that Pete Kennaugh will be a GT challenger.

For the future future, the big British hope is Germain Burton. Long way off though.

I'd say that Hagen and Sagan aren't future stars but present stars, I mean both have won 3 GT stages and world tour stage races/classics. They both miss a monument though but that will come for sure.

As for someone who hasn't had a real breakthrough yet I'll go with Sep Vanmarcke, I think he will be up there in the monuments already next year, particularly RVV. As for the Ardennes I think Henao will become a real threat there in a few years, not so much for GTs.

That might be true, but he's still only 21 and has definitely shown more than anyone else in his age group.

Yeah, we saw that in Castilla y Leon... dropped the field on the penultimate (steep) climb, and got dropped himself by 20-odd riders on the final climb, which was basically a false flat.

Cue some story about the wrong gear choice.

Don't know about that... he can't actually make a difference on climbs. And his TT isn't great either. But who knows, Nibali won a GT as well.

thank you for ruining your own argument for me. that's exactly the point. he's very good at long distance climbs, not flat or false flat. but he simply needs maturity in that. everyone can see that, the guy is 21

Reading is difficult for some... I was talking about tempo climbs, the "easy" climbs you usually find in the Tour, and that's not Quintana's forte.

You mean he's ****ing nuts and ultra competitive and I love him.

he had some problems with his self-appraisal (as a rider) being pretty low in the past (he admits this himself) but as he became more confident the next year should be his breakthrough.
ohhh, another one should be Dani Oss

he said some pretty bad things about himself and seemed to have some serious lack of confidence. but he is amazing indeed and very hard for himself

Hey I mentioned Battaglin :D

Other than that I completely agree with the rest of your names. Hopefully Ratto and Felline will find a team for next year.

My apologies!

Pretty sure they both can find a team for next year, think 1 or both of them will go to Farnese vini or Utinsilnord or whatever the new name is of the old Da Rosa team.
