Funny SKY never noticed straight away that Bertalucci worked at both Phonak and Cervélo with another team medic. Dr. Thomas Klimaschka who most Team Sky fans may remember from his glory days of our great sport when he was Phonak team doctor for Floyd Landis, Tyler Hamilton and Santiago Botero (Botero very nearly won both Dauphine (2nd) and Tour de Romandie (1st) in the same season 2005. A rising star by all accounts until he was implicated in Operacion Puerto. I think Brailsford or whoever runs the show needs to open his filing cabinet a bit more often and have a little read.

Brailsford is too busy gathering marginal gains for the GT team to be looking back into the history of Doctors for Sky.

I wonder who and how these doctors to recommended to Sky?

Is Bartalucci the reason why Nicole Cooke is guaranteed a ride at the Olympics even though her season has been poor.

On that list, there is someone called Oliver Cookson with the odd-sounding job title of "Performance assistant". A bit of Googling shows a man who owns a supplements company - but that seems odd, as he would surely send some lackey if he were Sky's supplements supplier. Anyone know if this is the guy who is with Sky or if that's someone else?

Just wanted to add a little more about the 2001 Blitz, so that it is clear that it doesn't tell us too much about Bartalucci.

We do not know for what he was targeted among the 50 something others but he is not among the list of eight who were finally punished.

We also know from the haul of substances that alongside the heavy stuff like insulin, HGH and testosterone there were also relatively paltry substances like lidocaine and caffeine, albeit in not inconsiderable amounts.

Just over a week before the Blitz raids, Bonjour had a rider (Noan Lelarge) test positive for a fairly mild corticosteroid, though with due process this did not become known until July 2001. Certainly there is a strong possibility that this product was administered by Bartalucci.

The Blitz was a massive revelation of cycling's underbelly but as a far-reaching investigation it yielded relatively little of significance. It does appear to have set the tone for some years after, when riders like Pantani were increasingly targeted by the authorities that had seen them slip through their fingers.

Great post, thanks. :)

Interesting that the results have flooded in since the president of BC has sat at the top table. Or is that a bit too tinfoil-hattish? :D

It seems the Clinic has better journalistic skills than the mainstream media. Good work on Bartalucci folks. Just a few names connected with Bartaluccu:
* Jeff d'Hondt [soigneur Ullrich]
* Alain Gallopin [teamleader RSNissan]
* Arritabel [doctor Once, Clas (ROMINGER!!!)]
* Gianetti [almost died of PERFLUOROCARBON]

Really, SKY couldn't be cleaner, nothing to see here, move on.

Who does the OOC controls on British cyclists? It is British Cycling?

Glad I wasn't the only one who found the easy certainty of his comments about the Olympic - Tour win relationship rather disconcerting.

If I were him - thankfully I'm not - and given the last few years of Tour history, I would go easy just in case the lab results came back to haunt me in the next few days, making me look really ridiculous and my position perhaps untenable. Personally, I tend to hold my breath until after the post-Tour crit season is over, though Contador ruined that for me, with his protocol-busting (and therefore leaked) 72 day shocker.

Not saying that anything untoward happened this year, it's just that maybe you'd want to be a bit careful with your bold pronouncements, wouldn't you? You'd be giving cautious encouragement to the whole business. But no, he sounded deadly certain of this one. :D

Brian Cookson himself appeared on a FB thread I was chatting on recently giving me load of nonsense about how much the sport has moved on since my days. At the time I didn't realise he was still BC president. He got pretty short change from me..all but told to fxxk off..should have took a screen shot! :D

Firstly- I should acknowledge that your site helped confirm some of the stuf I had found earlier, an excellent resource.

You are correct in your summary, the Italian legal system makes CAS look quick - although I'd be cautious in saying Bartalucci knew about Lelarge.

However again it begs the question why Sky changed from having good Docs like Palfreeman & Hulze who have unblemished records to Docs with dodgy histories.

It is obvious. Those doctors couldn't produce the results JamesMurdoch/TeamSky needed.

Tried it the clean way didn't work so now try it the standard pro cycling dirty doctor way.

The snitch lines are open! :)

I honestly think this is a good thing. Athletes see and hear. As long as someone truly anti-doping is listening on the other hand with means to address concerns, great!

UKADA has had that line and online entry system in place for quite some time.

It seems to be how Dan Staite got caught, and that was what 3 years ago ?

Well lets see what they do about about Sky working with Leinders?

Do we know how many OOC tests Sky riders were subjected too!

Figues get published on the site, but based on governing body. They run April-March as a 'year' to be in line with the tax year presumably.

In the 9 months to Dec 2011 Cycling as a whole was subjected to 123 OOC tests (plus 104 IC) for 227 total.
In addition there were 9 OOC and 5 IC tests run on behalf of the UCI.

2010-2011 test year for the same 9 months it was 400 total, plus 24 for the UCI, so 2011-2012 was running a little over half the rate of 2010-2011.

I have been expecting the 2011/2012 final report to be published for a while now, though to be fair there is some little shindig or other going on that may be distracting them from the paperwork.

There isn't a breakdown of road versus track, let alone Sky versus the rest of the road.

Whereabouts is working well though, per Chris Sutton's twitter feed, he was woken at 6am for a dope test, after getting home from The Tour de Wallonie at 2am.
