well guys we didn't talk about it but know it's certain.there is no way basso will do le tour.he will go for il giro again and nibali will be the leader in france no doubt

That would be the smart way to go. Although the stage to Cortina alone might make this edition tricky for Basso. :)
With the Tour route out, I'm hoping for a stronger startlist at the Giro than previously expected.

To be honest, I'm more interested in how many genuine sprint stages there are.

6 Maggio Herning – Herning (206 km)
7 Maggio Horsens – Horsens (190 Km)
10 Maggio Modena – Fano (199 km)
14 Maggio San Giorgio nel Sannio – Frosinone (171 km)
18 Maggio Savona – Cervere (121 km)
24 Maggio San Vito di Cadore – Vedelago (139 km)

these should be the guaranteed sprint stages...the others...who knows :p

Looking better than the Tour obviously, but not that great though. Should've had an individual TT instead of the TTT.

There will be more gaps on Tonnale Aprica Mortirolo Stelvio than in the entire TDF;)

LOL

I really like today - perhaps I'm a bigger fan of the parcours stuff then the races themselves, which is a little scary

Everyone loves the parcors stuff.

The problem is this should have come after the season finished, so we would have something to talk about, not when Lombardia and Piemont are still to come.

At least that problem will not exist next year :(

Is this the stage that is rumoured to have strade bianche?

Very likely indeed. It goes through the Strade Bianchi terrain.
Great terrain anyways. Tuscany is awesome.

edit:
16 Maggio Assisi – Montecatini Terme (243 Km) 2 stelle

Looks like they will only ride on the main roads. The shortest route from Assisi to Montecatini is 220km so wih just 23 extra km they won't divert from the main roads much.
Such a shame. I've been to Tuscany twice now and the possibilities seem endless to me.

EDIT: I found a shorter route. This makes it borderline possible to include San Pantaleon. This is Cherasco through St Pantaleon to Valtournenche, which is 8kms from the top of Cervinia proper.

Still, it's close enough that I'm intrigued... perhaps they start from the northern outskirts of Cherasco?

I have no time to check now. Control the length of the stage with col zuccore instead of pantaleon. Or with col du joux

With Joux, same situation. Just some kms long:

EDIT: With Colle Tzecore (I like Zuccore though :p). This FITS with some kms to spare.

I edited the first post with the route and the difficulty.

Apart from the usual lack of ITT, the route seems good. But I have to look at the route of stage 7, 8, 10, 11, 12, 14, 15 and 19 to be sure of it. :D

Mauro Facoltosi bets on the Tzecore too:

"Strada liscia da Cherasco a Berriaz (Montjovet) poi Colle d'Arlaz, tratto finale dello Zuccore, discesa a Saint Vincent e salita finale a Cervinia."

My wishes:
riders looking at the Tour parcours saying: "**** it! I'm doing the Giro next year!"
F. Schleck, Scarponi, Gesink (maybe another young Rabo), Gadret, Anton, Nieve, Rujano, Purito, Basso, Intxausti, Vanendert, Rolland, Uran, Poels, Garzelli, Taaramae, Pozzovivo, Duarte...all decide to do the Giro instead:)

"Strada liscia da Cherasco a Berriaz (Montjovet) poi Colle d'Arlaz, tratto finale dello Zuccore, discesa a Saint Vincent e salita finale a Cervinia."

5a tappa: Modena – Fano (199 Km)

Percorso "liscio", senza divagazione dalla Via Emilia prima e dall'Adriatica poi. Quindi: Modena - Bologna - Rimini - Pesaro - Fano.

8a tappa: Sulmona - Lago Laceno (229 km)

12a tappa: Seravezza – Sestri Levante (157 km)

14a tappa: Cherasco – Cervinia (205 km)

Strada liscia da Cherasco a Berriaz (Montjovet) poi Colle d'Arlaz, tratto finale dello Zuccore, discesa a Saint Vincent e salita finale a Cervinia.

15a tappa: Busto - Arsizio - Piani Resinelli (172 km)

40 ITT kms = automatic bad route.
Yes.. but 2MTFs in high mountains, one high mountain GC stage with decent and one MTF in medium mountains is crappy route. I'm afraid the route of Giro in 2012 will be better than Tour's. It is hardly possible to make a worse route than TDF 2012.

I beg to differ.

All I'm saying here is you CAN'T possibly make a good GT route with a total of 40 ITT kms. Even less so if most of them come in the last stage.
