Mmm guys, even if you ban Gigs he could always see the race on TV or follow it online.

A more effective move would be to talk to his TV and internet provider to cut his access.

I can see where this is going...

Tomorrow Astana will use these bottles to honour Scarponi

They will also be distributed to fans at the bus, it doesn't say if they'll be available for purchase

The first big day of reckoning for all of them is upon us. My heart wants Nibali to ride like he did in the 2014 TdF and break them all. If not I hope Major Tom keeps Nairo within sight. MoviStar is Strong, who will stay with them? Whoever goes, hopefully the stage is epic and not a damp squib!

The day of judgment. If Quintana does not gain 2 to 3 minutes on Dumoulin, it is starting to look difficult to win the race.
Not sure if I agree. Not yet, anyway. As of right now, I don't think 2-3 minutes is necessary for Quintana at all. Assuming Dumoulin fades like he did at the Vuelta, and "just" rides at a significantly higher level than back then, it's more about making him suffer consistently, day after day. It's more about the build-up, IMO.
Completely agree with this. Tomorrow is just the first part of a five act play. Of course, Quintana and Nibali can't afford to just soft pedal and say mañana, but gaining huge time is not so important tomorrow as pushing Dumoulin closer to the edge of cracking badly imo. In the Vuelta, it was far from the hardest stage where he ultimately cracked, it was just the day where him pushing the limits of his recovery finally caught up with him.

I think Dumoulin was ill in the Vuelta wasn't he ?

I think even without GC shenanigans we'll see a very strong break with guys like Rolland and Landani looking for stages and Fraile wanting to get the mountain jersey.
Keep in mind though that the first 60 km are flat, so climbers will have a hard time to get into the break. This could result in a thoroughly underwhelmiung group full of non-climbers. Of course i hope otherwise. Maybe we will see a second wave of attacks once the peloton hits Mortirolo.
I have never heard this theory. Interesting.

If climbers want to go in a break away they will go if they allowed. Simple as that had nothing to do with being a climber.

Anyway, there is no flat sections tomorrow FYI.

Will they distribute them to fans only tomorrow or for the rest of the Giro?

Oh boy.. wish i could get one of those..
Hopefully Cataldo can do something on top of Mortirollo since it'll be in his memory..
I guess it'll be a large break with so many possibilities and scenarios..
Landa ftw, Doumolin to hold pink with +1:30, Nibali to go crazy down Stelvio, Pinot+FDJ to do well, Formolo in white, lots of "dns" or 'dnf"..

I'm not sure
Tomorrow, on May 23rd, during Stage 16 (Rovetta – Bormio) with a famous climb Passo del Mortirolo, named as “Cima Scarponi”, Astana Proteam riders will use these bottles in the race, while the staff of the team will distribute it to the fans on the road and near the bus.

Also this is where Dombrowski, Foliforov & Hirt finally need to end their hibernation! If not they should be fired.
I've told you before (but you seem not to be aware or ignore it) - team doesn't wish Hirt to participate in any escape so far. Hardly they would fire rider who just follows orders.

The way Dumoulin has prepared, I'm sure he is aware of the Gigs angle and has secured viewing access, especially with the Dutch mafia on these boards.

Either a breakaway takes it or Nairito will display his 3rd week strength and drop everyone in the Santa Maria climb

This thread is seriously an emotional roller-coaster. What with the silly How shall we keep Gigs from watching? and BigMac forgot about the restday posts mixed in with the sad Astana's special bottles posts.
(And of course the actual race-predictions...)

I don't understand why for a stage like this there isn't the coverage from the start, going live at 13:05 (Raisport) and 13:15 (Eurosport) mean the probably we can't see the Mortirolo expecially if they start in a crazy way like last two stages.

German speaking Eurosport starts at 15:00... :(

Eurosport player in UK shows start time of 11.15 (12.15 CEST). Surely we not the only ones to get it this early??

Blame it on the freakin rest days. If not for the 'day of the lazy' we would now be cheering Antón's win in Bormio. :p

The Mortirolo will be the Cima Scarponi. I hope Astana can do something there. The press releases at the time said the climb would have double KOM points. If that is true then the climb is worth 70 points to the winner (current leader on 51). Stelvio is the Cima Coppi worth 45 points to the first over the top

So... if I get off "work" at 13:00 and it takes me about 40 minutes to ride home... how much am I in the risk of missing?
I'm obviously gonna go as fast as my legs (and red lights) allow.
