Nibali can drop Wiggins at will. The question is whether he's good enough to make that last more than 15 seconds.

Of course Nibali is good enough to make them last more than 15 seconds:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BCF3DE-PiaY

First attack started a few seconds before the start of the clip, and Wiggins latched back at about 0:16

Second attack at 3:22 lasted slightly more than 40 seconds

From these data, we can work out that the optimal time for Nibali to attack to put the most time into Wiggins in an MTF is ~20s before the finish line. :D

Haven't seen the stage yet, however for what regard the " will Nibali drop Wiggins in the Giro" discussion, just remember this was a quite easy climb while it will be in 10% plus section that nibble will he have a chance to drop Wiggo.
Sega di Ala will be a much more indicative test.
Let's not get this out of hand. This climb is nothing less than 90% of the climbs they'll ride next May. The only long 10% sections they'll find will be on the Tre Cime and that's all.
That said, Nibali today did never continued his attacks. He didn't even tried. nor did Wiggins.

Yes but Jafferau is too short for make any huge damage (and it's not really steep either).
Montasio has a very steep kilometer or two, but it's hard to think it would be enough to take any significant time to Wiggo. If Nibali wanna win he can't rely on the 10%+ slopes.

André Cardoso 11th like a boss. Seriously, I hope he can step up this year because riding anonymous top20 won't make his career worth of his climbing talent.

12th actually and to be honest i don't think he will ever step up from this. he doesn't seem to be aggressive at all which annoys me to be honest.

Well as I see it, he has two choices: either 1) he steps up his game, mostly his climbing skills because his TT won't lead him anywhere or 2) he starts being agressive in the mountains going for stages and KOM like Pirazzi, Txurruka or Rabottini.
He better learn from Rabottini because the other 2 are no-winning specialists :D

I share this thought, he may improve a little bit with experience, but this is almost his ceiling.

I'll say this he really disapointed me since going to caja rural. he was so strong in portugal and in wc's he reaslly seemed to have great engine, but so far it;'s been disapointing to me.

ya his WC performances were what created some expectations for me but after being average for a year and a half at caja i no longer have any expectations for him.

I don't know to be honest. From what i read he was doing pretty well until the volta do futuro of 2009 when he was 19 and put nearly 3 minutes into everyone on the climb to são macario (that was the year thet supposedly tested the climb to see if it could be used in the volta) but lost them on 40 km of downhill and flat the stage still had since the team of the leader still had like 5 riders in the chasing group.

After that performance most portuguese pro teams were after him but since his father asked for too much money none ended up taking him so he was left without a team for 2010 only racing on rare occasions for the u23 national team. In 2011 he signed for paredes but i think that only happened later in the season after he won a stage of the Toscana - Coppa delle Nazioni and finished 9th on the GC.

In 2012 he rode for prio and what i really liked his performance on the volta. After Ricardo Mestre crashed out of the race he was in the break pretty much every day.

Anyway i will follow his results but won't be doing any hyping as i simply don't know what he is capable of. The only portuguese u23 i have some faith in is rafael reis and even him as been disappointing so far as an U23

Was forced to ride WT races for BMC when they were even worse than they are now. Seems to be coming good now though. He has some other ok top20 continental climbing results.

well.. wiggin is ahead of nibali after the TTT. So Nibals needs to attack at least, to test wiggin's mantle. If he can't ditch wiggin on that kind of climb, how do you think he'll be able to sustain it if it's tougher climb.. (well I hope I was wrong)
