Contador is is megsismega strong. That strength will show in TT
Relative to this field, anyway. Remember that FQN aren't here.

See, I don't think FQN would've been much closer to gilbert today, on such punchy climb.

And beating Ulissi. Because that looked like an uphill sprint. They wouldn't have done better, Contador is really strong.
Neither arvc40 nor I were talking about uphill sprint strength but climbing/TTing.

And so? Arc40 was refering to today when he said Contador is mega strong, and it's true given the profile that doesn't suit him.

Why are you talking climbing/TT? TT is saturday, and the serious mountains are still to come. Up to now, it was nothing so why are you bringing NQF?

Nice finish by Battaglin as well, finished very fast, unfortunately I can't see him winning a stage from this point. Maybe a breakaway victory on an MTF like Oropa last year?

About two bike lengths in front of Ulissi and Geschke. Maybe he should have focused on winning a hill classic?

Aru said he had "a calo di zuccheri". He sai he couldn't eat properly... bah...
So he simply bonked? I don't know about that, he just seems to suffer in the rain and in the cold, maybe it was a combination of those 2 things.

If bonking means "a condition caused by the depletion of glycogen stores in the liver and muscles, which manifests itself by sudden fatigue and loss of energ" (wiki), yes, or so he said to RAI as reported also by italian online newspaper.

My numbers are messed up,yesterday Mikel Landa was 46 seconds behind Contador, today he lost 6+6=12 seconds. How can 46+12 make 55?

I hope for him that Contador doesn't share this hubris.
Not Contador's style. He'll talk about respecting opponents and the like, but today he definitely showed everyone that he is clearly the best rider in this race. I think TT day will be even trickier for him now: he knows he's the strongest and he won't want to push his shoulder but, though he can play a defensive game if he has to, playing it safe is not his style either.
I thought the "thing" with his shoulder was over days ago... It is not causing him any problem of sort. He'll ride to his best or to what he think is sufficient but the shoulder is really not a concern.
I thought he said he would definitely adjust his TT position. I expect an excellent TT from Contador regardless, but when he's this strong he gains time on most everyone.

Contador was second, not first, so 3+6=9

46+9=55

As I said,my numbers were wrong,3+6 is 9 and perfect, was a bit upset with my head for awhile but now it make sense!.. :D

He will adjust assuming he does feel something then but, well, this day proved something else. Bossing a short sharp climb like this with only specialist Gilbert in front says a lot.

Such a promising start to the Giro but it looks like the 2nd half of this Giro is going to be a quite boring relative to the first half. In terms on the GC victory at least.
I think that we knew that already from the beginning.

Tricky part hasn't and won't change, dig deep enough to win, and save as much as possible for the tour.

The problem with Aru's that he said he suffered in the last few kms because he couldn't eat properly. But, clearly, he was struggling at around the 30kms mark. So no, he'd better change tactic.

Let's hope he recovers, cause a one-man-show in the mountains would kill this Giro.

aru might have forgotten to eat, but IMO he did not bonk, at least not properly. the climb was very hi-octane stuff and proper bonking basically means no entrance to fuels other than fat, ie. hi-octane energy sources. such a scenario would have easily meant a deficit of say 30+ sec.

unless of course he bonked in the last 150 meters or something.
