Seriously, that was one of the greatest stages of modern cycling?!
VMT. Not sure why you watch cycling if you can't enjoy that stage, regardless of which riders are your favourites. That was incredible entertainment for three hours.
I agree, but weren't you saying post-classics that races with one rider holding a lead for hours on end was dull?

How is it still entertaining when you realize one man is 20 leagues above the rest? Just killed all the excitement.

Ah so watching Contador killing your excitement then, makes sense

Just enjoy it for what it is. Like him or not, Froome has been the main protagonist in by far the two most entertaining stages of this Giro - it's a much more entertaining race for having him here.

Imagine if he wasn't here, Dumoulin would be three minutes ahead and the race would have been over 3km into the Finestre.

Mad props to Dumoulin. I thought his Giro win was a bit of a fluke but clearly it wasn't. Terrific performance. I am now a fan.

Re: Giro d'Italia 2018 stage 19: Venaria Reale – Jafferau 18

I watch international cycling since 2004 and that was probably one of the best if not the best stage i've ever seen. I was lucky enough to watch the entire stage. Yes, there are some similarities with Floyd Landis' ride in '06 but for now i'm too tired to think about it and i'm just enjoying this brilliant stage. Time splits in top 10 like after 21 stages. Chapeau Froome. Wonder, what will happen tomorrow.

Also, chapeau Yates even if i almost forgot about him... and chapeau Carapaz and Lopez for being di**s ;)

It's a completely different scenario. This would have been a bit dull for a one day race. But Froome wasn't actually in the virtual lead until about 20km to go.

And to think that some on here thought he'd take the money and go home at the end of week one. He won that with bravery above all else. The courage to go almost 90km out and the cojones to take a minute out of his rivals on a terrifying descent.

Dumoulin is around 40 seconds behind Froome. It's over.

Must be kicking himself for not trying to bridge alone in the Finestre descent...
Yep, letting that gap go out to two minutes on a descent was a terrible error of judgement.
Perhaps, but Dumoulin looked spent and did let Reichenbach do a lot of work on the flat. If he hadn't been the time might've just been lost elsewhere.

But likely not 3'20"...well we'll never know.

I've been bitter about it for the entire afternoon (one would have guessed the pre-written script) but thankfully I don't care now.

Agreed, he's gone up in my estimation as well. Really gutsy ride. He's clearly a level below the very best stage racers on top form, but he seems more consistent and is a fighter.

Froome annihilates modern cycling with a three stage plan. Two legendary mountains and the itt. If he wins this, it’s the best thing I’ve seen in cycling.

Yep, ultimately you could argue the difference between Froome being in pink or not, is because he had the biggest cojones to go all out on the Finestre descent.

Also, there was a non-neglible chance he could crack big time. Rarely happens to a Cancellara or a Boonen.

You're absolutely right. I just can't figure out how he can go from medicore to superior like that. But then again. He makes a perfect villain and I kind of like him for that.
