The queen stage has a succession of three major climbs. It will be a dangerous day. If you're dropped on the first or second climb you can lose a lot of time, so Evenepoel will be put to the test.

There's no MTF, so Bernal will probably just defend. Simon Yates has learned from three years ago and saved his energy for the final nine days. Caruso is the new ninja. After making the top 10 in the Tour and the WCh he might now podium in the Giro without ever being noticed during the race.

For the stage this might be Nibali's big day. If he joins the break he would have a good chance with a finish after a descent.

I am Italian and you won´t forgive me. but please tell me when you can call a stage a "Dolomiti stage" I have no idea where the Dolomiti start or finish

This is a good map - https://www.google.com/maps/d/u/0/v...n&ll=46.43948106978144,11.758171276695597&z=9

Pretty much if you are west of Bolzano, south of Borgo Valsugana, east of Belluno/Pieve di Cadore, or north of the SS49 you are outside the Dolomites.

So Tre Cime is the north-east, and then Grappa in the south and Mendola near Bolzen are out of the Dolomites, for example.

Manghen, Pampeago, Rolle, San Pellegrino, Pinei, Fedaia, Alpe di Siusi, Pordoi, Gardena, Sella, Campolongo, Giau, Tre Croci, Erbe, Furcia, Falzarego/Valparola are in.

Sella's second stage in 2008 is always what springs to mind when I think about the Dolomites

Bernal's rivals will be hoping to see some chinks in the armor. So far there haven't been any. Even if its not the strongest Ineos team, none of the other teams are doing much damage in the mountains. Wouldn't be a surprise to see Bernal and Yates break clear of the field and continue like that on the climbs for the rest of the race.

I recall that this stage was originally rumoured to finish at Tre Cime, and ever since the 2013 stage was altered I have been waiting eagerly for the Giro to return, unfortunately not this year either.

...

The best map I found of the Dolomites:

Many expected Finestre to be wasted.
I don’t remember my expectations very well, but probably that the main favourites would reach the last climb together — And I think that is the most likely scenario if the stage is repeated.

Astana to go ballistic to get Vlasov onto the podium. Hope the weather doesn't take any victims, especially GC lot with crashes. Could this be the second time Bernal wins a GT with the queen stage being shortened due to the weather? C;mon Remco, show us what you're made of and have a good ride over these hills. Bardet to win this stage.
