Insane!!!!
Arroyo is a chance to win the giro as it is.
Even porte should have a great overall
And sastre looks like he will be right back in it.
This year's giro is absolutely insane...

Maybe the best thing to happen to Arroyo was Bruseghin leaving the Giro - no arguing who should be the center of the tactical compass for Caisse.

I was going to make a joke about Karpets being all red right now, but then I remembered I have dignity

Actually, that's a lie, I really don't.

Who's the Caisse attacking the first group?

It was Arroyo, but I think he was just descending fast rather than attacking. He slowed down when he noticed he was ahead.

Here's how the break formed according to Cycling Weekly:

The bunch split on the first climb. Then it started raining heavily, so everyone went to get their wet clothing and by the time the bunch were organised, the gap was 10 minutes. It then fell to Astana and BMC to take up the chase, but they had men off the back.

karpets is riding flat out. he's going to be all the way down the hall of fame.

He's been totally laid out by this attack. They've really nailed Karpets this time.

Wtf is going on?? I just tuned in and the commentators are talking about Sastre and Wigans being back in it, Porte in the jersey, and all the favorites possibly losing time they won't be able to get back.

After the race I'll go back and read this thread but can someone briefly tell me what happened? How did the favorites let all these danger guys get so far down the road? Crashes?

No, just stupidity. They've got no one to blame but themselves.

This has to the craziest GT I've ever seen. Sastre's back in contention? Four minutes ahead of Evans before the mountains? If Sastre ends up winning this thing, Vino and Evans should just ride their bikes off a cliff--did they just decide to give the race away because it was a fun idea?

Porte will crack in the third week. Agnoli and Kiserlovski will be protected by the best team in the Giro. Tondo will have to take two minutes somewhere, Sastre will have to take almost six minutes from Kiserlovski.
