will wiggo go for overall now? at least the maglia rosa group favs will have to attack and start from the monte grappa stage.

It will definitely give him something to think about. I imagine he will try to follow wheels for the first few mountain days and see how it goes. He won't be that far ahead of Vino et al and it could easily turn into a pretty bruising few days in the Dolomites if those guys have to smash it up from early in the stages.

something MUST of happened to cause this. this is way out of the ordinary.

apparently, as someone mentioned, bmc and astana had no team mates to bring the chase back after heavy rain and disorganization allowed this break to get 10 minutes.

pays to have a strong team ;)

Porte will crack in the third week. Agnoli and Kiserlovski will be protected by the best team in the Giro. Tondo will have to take two minutes somewhere, Sastre will have to take almost six minutes from Kiserlovski.

still no way they will be near it.

12'23 now. Chasers have made up a bit of time. Only problem is that about 13kms remain. For them to catch up the stage would have to tack on an extra 100 or so kms.

if he improves his form, I wouldn't put it past him in that final week.
But yes I see Kiserlovski as a real chance now too.
But Arroyo i think, is a big winner today. He can win.

12.23 -- they are not gaining much at all.

Sounds completely reasonable to me, assuming Tondo and Sastre are on any sort of reasonable form in the third week. Cervelo in the drivers seat. EDIT: not to mention Arroyo.

Stages 15, 16, 19 and 20 mean huge time losses/gains are in the pipeline.
Plus I bet somewhere up an unexpected road, the fireworks will go off.

Wait, how is this Cadel's fault?!? The guy's team is in tatters.
The only thing about this race that was predictable.

But Kiserlovski will have about the same time as Arroyo, and Kiserlovski definitely has the better team. And Liquigas will also have the option of attacking the jersey with Agnoli for example.

Yes, but they won't want to allow the gap to be too large. The strength for Basso and Nibs now is that they can watch and follow Vino/Evans/Cunego etc because they have riders ahead. But at the same time they can't give Sastre and Arroyo too much time.

Wtf is going on?? I just tuned in and the commentators are talking about Sastre and Wigans being back in it, Porte in the jersey, and all the favorites possibly losing time they won't be able to get back.

After the race I'll go back and read this thread but can someone briefly tell me what happened? How did the favorites let all these danger guys get so far down the road? Crashes?

I watch Fringe, so my first thought was alternate universe. But I guess it's just one more (massive) twist in Giro d'Italia 2010.

Now I just hope someone got the moment of the break on tape.
