there's a break with 56 riders!!! 7 minutes ahead of the peleton
FFS. Someone could ride themself into GC contention today. How could Astana even find out who's in it quickly enough to chase?

Holy balls, that's crazy! Any word yet on who's up there/who is behind? Someone is going to have to organise a serious chase.

Gazzetta's tracker says the gap is already 6:30, with only 37km covered. Is Astana going to pull a Phonak and drop the jersey to some lucky escapee?

I wonder who the GC riders mentioned by Dekker are. Could be someone like Duran, Tondo, Efimkin, Gerdemann, Wiggins perhaps? Exciting times.

I've said it before and I'll say it again: if you are watching the Giro with anything other than Italian commentary you are doing it wrong, even if you don't speak a word of the language it's a far more exciting experience, and you'll be surprised how much you can understand.

For those that are interested, download the VLC Media Player and point it at this url, it's a 24 hour stream of Rai Sport. At the moment they are broadcasting some bizarre Italian hybrid of shuffleboard and billiards that I have never observed before in my life, but coverage of the Giro should start soon.

I can't seem to find that Gazzetta ticker you speak of... Seems to be hidden very well. Could you link it, that'd be grand!

With that mixed hills-flats profile at the end of the stage I would've pick Cunego for the win today but I think he blew his chances when he stated he was aiming for GC again. My point is that he will be closely marked by the GC contenders.
I'll keep my pick ambigous enough: a Katusha rider.

What makes you say that it is a joke, Tornadin?

I think Astana are going to drop the jersey today, or maybe they just want to frighten BMC/Liquigas in to riding to protect their podium spots. Interesting choice, I guess they don't want to work all through this middle week. I really want to find out who is in this breakaway now!

Names! Graham Watson on twitter has names!

Sky has Wiggins, Cervelo has Sastre, Garmin has Millar & Martin; Saxo Bank has Porte, possible race-leader tonight... Vinokourov in trouble?

Go Carlos!

Wiggins and Millar and Sastre, oh my!

If Porte gets the Maglia Rosa tonight we may have to add a few more carriages to his hype train, it is going to get BUSY.

So at the moment, at least Wiggins, Sastre and Porte are ahead of Vinokourov in GC. Very interesting.

Would love to see Gadret or Daniel Moreno in the break today. They could both be a suprise for the GC if they get the time they lost in holland back today. and who is gonna chase down a 56 riders strong group? astana? no way.. I guess Liquigas will have to do some work today
