Well Katushu has had a good day, they won the stage and apparently they've signed Vino.
from the CN stage recap:
"Team Katusha's Evgeni Petrov won an extraordinary 11th stage of the Giro d’Italia from Lucera to L'Aquila in which the general classification was turned on its head with Richie Porte (Saxo Bank) taking over from Alexandre Vinokourov (Katusha)"

"Cadel" means 'battle', well he will certainly have to live up to his name to win this.

Sastre means 'tailor', some have said this course suites him.:D

Alexandre vinokourov: He will also have to fight like Alexander the great to get close to winning this.

too tired to find any others.

Looks like its time to start cheering on Porte.

90% of those guys will crack and end up behind evans, vino, basso, nibali on GC but the one that doesn't will win and Sastre looks to be finding form.

Race over if you ask me, Sastre has won.

We'll see. Sastre hasn't looked great until now and his time advantage over the former MR contenders is still of the order that can be lost in a single mtf. Arroyo is by far the best placed at this point but I wouldn't rule out any of the former MR contenders still. The problem they have is the same that they faced late on today - there are a lot of guys close together that will still feel they need to keep an eye on each other. Vino will attack of course, but will the likes of Evans, Basso, Garzelli really be prepared to commit as much as is now required? They will fear making huge efforts that do no more than pave the way for another big hitter. Kišerlovski and Agnloi are now key for Liquigas, they hold the best cards for attacking Arroyo.

Time limit is 39 minutes normally, but because of the weather it will probably be extended to about 47 minutes.

next time someone writes "this is cadel's race to lose" ....maybe they should also say "this is not an instruction"

That was one rough day at the office for the group formerly known as the MR group

Evans & Vino screwed the pooch. It happens. Still a lot of tough racing to go so I wouldn't 100% count either of them out, but it doesn't look good. (For them that is, for those who made the break and are real GC contenders it looks great.:D) One things for sure, you can't call this Giro predictable. :)

Exactly - there is still a long way to go in this Giro yet - Evans & Vino are not out of it but allowing Sastre get a 4 minute advantage makes it a tough battle.

It's very conceivable that Arroyo could win this thing. I might actually say he is the favorite at this point; he still has ~5:30 on Sastre.

Aw, Richie Porte is delighted. Sounds like a very nice guy.

He seems to be a lovely bloke. His interview when he won the Romandie ITT was charmingly naive, in the nicest sense.
Get behind him and wait for the monster mountains that will bring Cadel back into the frame.

This race is far, far from over. Remember, this isn't the Tour, so anything can still happen.

evans and vino may be 3-4mins down on sastre now, but considering that it was the reverse this morning, i'm not writing off anyone as after seeing this, anything can happen in the next 10 days.
it's a funny old race...

Porte means 'door', let's hope it doesn't hit him on the way out.

Screw Sastre. It's Arroyo. How do they get ten minutes back from him.

Expect the guys who lost a lot of time and are not Vino or Evans, will go on the attack now (here's hoping Mollema will do that) :D

Don't worry. Some more "magic potion" and he'll be back to good old Flying Karpets

The blame game begins - Liquigas DS says Astana and BMC. Gazzetta journo says Liquigas.

From what I could see Liquigas didn't start participating in the chase until very late in the stage. They seemed content to leave the work to the other teams.

Is he still crediting McGee with everything? Afterall, McGee top10'ed in his first or second Giro
