And Jayco who had numbers needed a rider at the front for the last 2kms. Anyway, Del Toro showed in L'Avenir that he is a tactically aware rider and when you have big talent it means lots of wins in your pro career. Plapp looked super strong on the last climb which augurs well for Willunga Hill.
Quinn Simmons had some gas also but used it just too early but he was snappy and was up out of the saddle still accelerating.. Looked really good on his move. Plapp looked like he was ready, I thought he was going to be either a factor or they factor, he looked really good.
Del Toro doesn't have any track experience that I am aware of.. but he has a kilometer or kilo and a half jump that is really impressive and he carries lots of speed.. Cyclingdane picked him a week or 2 ago for leadership at TDU. I don't know if he is a good sprinter at his new level,, but when you can long jump like he did today no need..
He did an effort, going all the way to the back to pee, and did 2 super efforts including the winner in @8k that's crazy recovery!!

Stage 2 of TDU, first WT victory (!) for del Toro… So many guys would cut a finger off to once ever win a WT race, and he wins on his second/third day in his first WT year.

He‘s obviously a big, big talent. Already won l‘Avenir with a team that was probably weaker than most other teams.

As a Mexican, he‘s not from a cycling country, and certainly also is mentally strong, and used to overcome hindrances.

Will be very interesting to follow his development…

Never the less, some teams (IPT comes to mind in particular) royally f'ed up that last KM
it may look like in the result, but I wouldn't really say IPT did too much wrong there. Del Toro's attack finished Schultz at the front, and then Battistella sat up although Astana had a sprinter (Kanter) in the group, which opened the gap. Williams then tried to close it, but came a bit too late.

So yeah, with Williams on Schultz's wheel they probably could have kept it together, but I'd still say Strong mainly didn't win because del Toro timed his attack perfectly.

Just a general question since people are posting about the ongoing TDU in this thread.

Are there still specific race threads being posted where people are commenting on the race as it happens? I'm guessing if that's still a thing then it is mainly for the bigger races?

Or has that sort of discussion moved elsewhere? Is there a discord server for example where people are chatting during races?

It still is a thing. We are just waiting for someone to create a thread :D

There are threads for many races, sometimes even for some that aren't televised, but the TDU is usually being discussed in this thread, due to what appears to be a combination of laziness, less forum activity at this point of this season, and some (mostly) past forum members' disregard of the race.
