Yes, but that was a long time ago, and maths and cycling not always go togheter. :D
But the true answer is "he can't lose in normal condition", wich in cycling means pretty much nothing. :D

Is that so? Ok, in that case please tell me how many of these "old timers" beat Lance in the 2009 TdF.

As far as Basso goes... IMO I think he can podium. But he's not a threat to AS, AC or DM.

Lance will beat him.

Lance has been back traning for almost two years now, he is going to get better and better.

Contador is to young and inexperienced he has only won 4 gts lance has won 7. contador also has a very week team that was not able to support him on the pavel and that is why he dropped back, no team.

They wont be able to support him in the montains, how do you expect contador to climb with the best unless the has at least three team mates around him? Seriously.

Serious inquiry: is this post in jest?

I said before the Tour that he would only lose if he crashed. Stage 3, no crashes.

Even with all the theories of teams working together against him, I really don't think anyone else will be in yellow in Paris.

That is one of the many wonders of the wonderlance. We can't really tell if he is just awesome at tongue in cheek humor or if he is serious. And I am hoping we never really know.

Yes, it's in jest. Wonderlance is a Lance critic doing a fairly transparent parody of a Lance fanboy.

Thanks for ruining it. Now I have to figure out how to put cerberus on ignore. You JERK!!! :D

It is going to be tough for him to lose. He could beat himself (crash/bonk etc). Outside of that, the bears in the mountains have a shot, but Kazakhs prolly kill bears with their bare hands and then eat them raw while their cubs watch. So even that is mitigated.

Sorry, if it makes you feel better you could assume that my conviction that Wonderlance must be joking is a really just a defence mechanism preventing my life from descending into a spiral of despair and drugs from the realization of just how stupid some people are. :p

alberto is human. he could simply be beaten. rasmussen seemed to have his number a few years back. it is possible someone could just turn out better this year. it doesn't look likely. but it's possible.

one bad day could do him in. dehydration from an intestinal cataclysm is a popular way for this to happen. he could simply bonk ala paris nice. astana could stupidly let a break get away.

as for all the talk about other gc guys colluding to attack. that's just bs. they are riding against each other too. besides, to attack a rider you have to be near him. it is much more likely that bertie will attack everyone else and simply ride away.

Well, if he is joking, he is just one less of some of these really awesome lance fans. Anytime I need a breath of dumb air (as if there ain't plenty here) I can always go to the other websites where he really is revered. God Bless the morons.

Ah, yes reminds me of the old joke/sad truth: "God must love stupid people, he made so many of them!"

Any further comment belongs in the LA thread, but I used to love the guy. If he would just stick to riding his bike, he'd be OK. It's everything off the bike that is so worthy of disgust. He couldn't be happy being a big fish in a small pond, he had to buid the myth to be the big fish in the big pond and now he is a 700 pound gorilla.

Off topic, but that stage in the 2007 TdF was incredible. LL and AC did everything that they could to drop the Chicken and the Chicken took it all. Once LL and AC were cooked, the Chicken laid down the hammer.

It would be great to see something like that this year--LA and AS trying everything, but AC eventually riding off alone.

Armstrong is going to have you tossed out of Texas for statements like that!;)

He is the only one wich Contador didn't run against yet, so if you must you should bet there to have a chance! :D

Hey watch out with Basso...!!!! Liquigas has the better team for the mountains! don't waste your thoughts on Saxo and The Shack... Liquigas is the team to take care in the mountains... but for Basso depends how well he could has recovered from Il Giro... I haven't seen him too confortable on the cannondale specially after Le Pavé du nord. On saturday starts the mountains, for sure he will sit back on Kreuziger's wheel IF there isn't early attacks from teams like Rabo and The Shack cuz they need to start cutting the gap that they got in Le pavé... and in the case that Basso is too toasted in the 3rd week, well there will be Kreuziger that is higher ranked in the overall and can climb very well... after Il Giro I'm hoping to see a great spectacle from Basso... lets see if he can emulate Il Pirata!

HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHALSKJDHALKSHDALKSDJLASKJDLASKJD I also heard that Vino and Grivko and Iglinsky are formers KGBs... so That is likely to happen =D

No way he takes yellow on Sunday.

+1

Alberto is not going to take that responsability too soon, he doesn't want to burn out his team, Is more likely that Cadel will take the yellow this weekend IMHO...

returning to the initial idea of the post... El Pistolero could lose this tour for mechanical or medical reasons... but not for a bad form or preparation cuz if you compare the performance that others GC contenders have had this years AC had better performance that all of them together, won volta ao Algarve, vuelta Castilla y Leon, Paris-Niza, 2nd in Criterium du dauphine, third in Liege-Bastogne-Liege or Fleche Wallone (I dont remember) etc... This have been a great year with an awesome preparation for El Pistolero... and as we know he increase his form in the last weeks... so watch out cuz he can repeat what happen in Verbier...

Hey other very important GC enemy is Denis Menchov... I don't know but he is going to do something great this tour, all we know that he always had bad luck in Le grand boucle but this year I think is going to be different...

mmmm about Cadel Evans uffff he did it great in Le pavé!! I'm pretty happy for him cuz he did it great in Il Giro and I'm pretty sure that he will give a great fight in the battle for the maillot jaune... right now he is the main problem for El Pistolero, he can climb veeeery well and in the TT he can do it pretty good... I don't know but if you ask me for me Cadel Evans is like Vinokourov... I could see it in Il Giro, both can climb very well and in the TT are pretty good... the contra for Cadel is his team :( if you think that AC has the weaker team well think again cuz BMC for mountains is pretty weak... This is going to be a great challenge for Cadel and I can't wait what he is going to do... I hope a podium from him :)

Returning to Astana I want to talk about the spanish mountain goats, Tiralongo and Vino... don't understimate them! They can climb and climb very well! they were training almost for two weeks in "La Bola del Mundo" near madrid at more than 2000m above the sea... if Levi or Kloeden attacks Vino, Dani or Tiralongo is going to be there... of course is not going to be easy but they can suck wheels and do it very well... if you remember Dauphine 2010 when they were climbing two stages before Alpe D'Huez, AC with Dani and Noval (though) Dropped the whole Shack and left Jani alone... of course is not going to be so easy here but could happen the same with Lance, you never know =D

I wanted to talk about more things but the post is already too long... sorry for that

one thing against contador is that he doesn't win stages very often, which you could put down to high lack of ability to finish the job or lack of killer instinct. from all his tours conta has 3 wins, lance (who has raced more but is a similar sort of rider) has 22.

This is an absolutely ridiculous post. First, how many stages did Lance win in 2005? One. 2003? One. 2000? One.

It's not about winning stages, it's about winning the STAGE RACE. As far as wins, well, Contador's won all 3 Grand Tours, so saying he doesn't have the ability to finish the job, is, well, silly, to put it kindly.

And you're also counting stages Lance won pre-cancer. So, you're covering almost 2 decades.

i totally agree, but it is possibly a flaw in his character that he doesn't finish his competitors off like the other greats, merckx, hinault, larry.

ps why can't i write "chink"?

Ok, you lost me at "doesn't finish his competitors off." I have absolutely no idea what that means. Win stages? What? Win races? Can't be that.

well, i was watching indurain the other night win the 1994 tour, he won by something like 7 minutes. granted, he wasn't a big stage winner but when he had his man down, he ground his boot into his face. i don't think contador has that character and is a possible way he can be beaten - which was the original question.
