One day classic for climbers. As always all the climbing talent is here, it's the final showdown between the best riders of this season.

Notable events/riders:
  • Pogacar is back to defend his victory from last year. He has won this race three times no.
  • Evenepoel will want to show off the golden bike again
  • Roglic will be looking for less rain and a stomp
  • Enric Mas is also looking good in the late season

Technical info
The race starts from Bergamo, heading towards Val Seriana, with a short flat section before tackling a series of climbs in the foothills of the Pre-Alps surrounding the city. A relentless sequence of ascents follows, chaining together the Forcellino di Bianzano (Valle Rossa) and the climbs of Ganda, Colle di Berbenno, and Valpiana. This first set of climbs covers over 50% of the total elevation gain of the race. A short flat segment leads to the Lake Como area, where the racecourse runs alongside the lake from Lecco to Onno. Here, the race turns and tackles the ascent to Asso (known as “la Onno”) and then the legendary Ghisallo, though from its less grueling side. The riders will then descend to Bellagio and tackle a fast-paced stretch along the lakeshore to Nesso. Once there, the hardest climb of the Lombardia begins, namely the ascent to the Colma di Sormano. This 13-km climb features gradients up to 11%, on a sometimes narrow road with numerous hairpins. After cresting, a rapid descent with switchbacks takes the riders down to Maglio. From here, the route trends gently downhill to Como. Once past the city, the riders face the ascent of San Fermo della Battaglia (397 m), before descending back into Como heading towards the finish line.

Last kilometres
The final 10 kilometers begin within the city of Como, following wide boulevards until the railway underpass, where the final climb of San Fermo della Battaglia starts. The gradient hovers around 7%, peaking at 10%, on a narrow road with a rough surface. The riders will navigate several hairpin bends before cresting at around 5 kilometers to go. The descent unfolds on a wide, well-paved road, featuring two well-lit tunnels and two large roundabouts, ending with around 1 km to go. At 600 meters to the finish, there’s a sweeping left-hand corner. The finishing straight is on asphalt, with a 7-meter-wide road.

Three-time champion Pogačar is the clear favourite. If he wins for the fourth time, he will tie with Alfredo Binda, who had a total of four victories in 1925, 1926, 1927, and 1931. A fourth win for the Slovenian would see him equal the feat of Fausto Coppi, who had four consecutive triumphs in 1946, 1947, 1948, and 1949, and who also holds the record for the most wins with a fifth title, achieved in 1954.

Every pre race he's in reduced to a "where will he launch his solo" guessing game. Side talk is what record there is to break today.

I can count myself lucky I liked Pogacar from the start, and I think I still do. If I didn't maybe I'd stopped watching cycling - at least for awhile - like I did after Froome - Porte demolition combo and Visma won few races in a row and pick winner at will. It's hard to be objective as sport fan. But even so, maybe I'll get to that point too with him, even that I like him, he's dominant in the extreme even the race for second felt done by broken people.

Nothing cycling needs more than a reeled-in Pog's solo, fantasy stuffs like that.
