You still have Evans and Valverde.Arredondo said:A couple of minutes after the stage ended, i started to realise what i have witnessed.
The end of the great Ivan Basso. The end of the Armstrong/Ullrich/Kloden/Mancebo era. Period for now. It makes me sad

Yeah in 2005. But the one wasn't a serious contender at all (Evans), the other rider abanonded (which was sad, after his great showing of Courchevel)
Carols said:Valverde crashed out with a broken collarbone yes? He was Really looking good too! He was already on my Favs list and I was hoping he would take down LA.
Very sad to see Basso riding like this; turning himself inside out and still failing. It's time to either hang up the wheels of become a superdom which is beneath him IMO. But hey Samu is doing it, so if he wants to ride next year it might be the route to take.
Pippo_San said:It was so heartbreaking for me to see the once great RoboBasso try to put his heart beyond his actual physical limits.
Cassani told that when he held the meeting with the Squadra Azzurra, Basso was always the first to go training, always the first to pull, always the first to sprint. He's definitely one hell of a professional rider: is this his swan song?

I believed he could leave a mark on this Giro, even if for one stage only. But he's got nothing left. I don't wanna see him doing domestique duties for another team. Call it a career at the end of the season. That's it.
manafana said:Agree, depends if he needs money or not which I assume he doesn't likely due to his calm friendly nature he has a future in cycling outside of riding if he wants it.
