Not top20. Showed the form almost every year in either Suisse or Dauphine. Never finished top20 apart from once.

Well, several years he has been a domestique... and the few years he got to ride for himself, something always seemed to happen, like a year where he was plagued with a bad back, and a year where a motorbike took him down, while he was attacking in the mountains.

I think he is better than many suspect.... and provided he avoids accidents this time around, I see him on the podium..... especially with all the downhill there is, where he is one of the best in the peloton.

Back in the game with a strong performance today.
I actually expected him to win the stage, but he really mistimed his effort in the end. How can any sensible person start sprinting with 600 meters to go??

Yeah too bad he didn't win the stage, but it adds a lot of excitement having him back in the top 5. Hopefully him and Aru can cause some problems for Froome in the coming 2 weeks.

Anyone know what happened him on the second half of the descent? Was dropped by the group very quickly then came back on at the bottom

On tv after the stage, he said that the front wheel he got from Grivko(?), when he punctured on Col de la Biche, wasn't the same type as the one he normally uses, so he wasn't 100% comfortable.

Leclercq thought he was visibly frightened since he heard the boom of Porte's crash.

Probably a mix of both since it certainly wouldn't have been wisely to hammer downhill with a untrustworthy front wheel in the direct aftermath.

What a relief that his performance on le Planche des Belles Filles was just a bad day or maybe due to the extremely hot weather. Apparently, his DS told him to go early in the sprint today because they were afraid of Uran's sprint, which seemed very ill-advised considering Jakob's strength in the last 12k's today.

I understand that his strange descending was caused by the new wheel, but how did he manage to bridge up again so fast after opening up such a gap?

Probably could use his strength when the descent eased off to more moderate gradients and the really technical part was over. Man, was I nervous that he'd lose contact for the rest of the stage, when I saw him go backwards on the descent?! But luckily he managed to cling on, although in retrospect, Astana should have played it better to win the stage.

Still overrated, will probably finish between 6th-9th (which still would be good for him). I think stage 12 and 17 or 18 will be too much for him, his recovery is a problem, but the Danish media thinks 'helping' Nibali is/was the problem. Funny, isn't it?

Less sad than caring for a rider just because he speaks the same language as oneself. Unlike Rasmussen, Fuglsang just isn't worth cheering for. Only Danes and Astana fans like him.
Hey, I'm an Astana fan and I've never really liked him as a rider, the last time that I cheered for a Danish gc rider was 10 years ago.
That said, if he rides like durning the 2017 Dauphine you almost have to cheer for him, because who doesn't like an attacking rider?

Complete BS

He is one of the most respected riders in the Peloton, which is widely known, by anyone who follows professional roadracing closely.

As for it being "sad" to cheer for your countrymen in sports........ ROFL

I am neither an Astana fan or a Dane and I like Fuglsang

Isn't it sad, then, to get to know that what you do (cheer for him) isn't worth it?

Didn't seem to be a problem in 2013 though.

Re the whole fanbase thing, it could also be that some fans just cheer for him regardless of nationality or team support. Afterall, he ticks a lot of boxes for what cycling fans appreciate: stylish, attacking and versatile. I'm sure if he looked like Chris Anker Sørensen or Froome on a bike or if he just rode conservatively all the time, my appreciation for him would not be the same.
