You suspect that, and I suspect that, but legally Bruyneel was the Team Manager. Armstong was a rider. Maybe leader of the team, but he could argue that his responsibilities started and ended on the road. So any questions the feds may have regarding the running of the team as a whole, they'll go to the Hog.

Judging by how fast he skipped town he was running scared. Of the Feds or Lance we may never know. He'll never go back to US ever again. Interesting he didn't go back to London but Italy...... I wonder why?

Johan prolly had to go to Cali so he could get in-person training on how to act while wearing the wire.

My source says that when they DO write something about Johan, they'll make specific mention that he vanished for at least a week. His attendance at the Giro has not been confirmed yet. No one is saying anything: Not USADA, not the feds, not RadioShack/Nissan/Trek.

My source also says that it is clear that the other cycling media is essentially going along with RadioShack's wishes and not pressing the issue, supporting my thoughts that the cycling press is afraid of reduced access to the Schleck bros during the Tour.

Thanx. That news suppressing is just wrong though...I can't believe that no one will stand up to that ...this could be and probably is a much bigger story than the TdF Schleck stuff....

For all practical purposes it's appearing that Bruyneel is in Italia....could it be faked :D

Why is Schleck about to abandon?

Because apparently he hurt his shoulder when he hit the brick wall AKA Alex Rasmussen - sorry, when AR apparently viciously attacked Schleck by not raising his hand when slowing down a bit. I guess the hurt shoulder is also why Schleck performed so poorly today ;)

Anyway - back JB!

Considering that last year at this time he had eloped to secret break-away negotiations in Dubai and considering a few days ago - as RR noted further up thread - his twitter account had his location as Dubai, then maybe his disappearance has only partly been about feds and partly about renewed break-away talks. Also a good reason to head to Italy and have dinner with Aquarone...

I thought about that too. But PelotonPundit (if his tweets are to be believed) took a flight with him to Italy. Is PelotonPundit from USA or Blighty? If the latter, than that means the hog flew into London? Or was PP at the ToC and took a direct flight to Italy (with Johan)?

Well, maybe the twitter-Dubai thing is not to be taken literally but more a hint for the initiated as to what he was up to. He could have done his break-away dealings in the states and they were the ultimate reason he ended up staying away from Tour de Cali.

Do we know if he was in the bus or not?

Well he sneaks around the world from Kiev to Carolina,
he's a sticky-fingered filcher from Berlin down to Belize,
he'll take you for a ride on a slow boat to China,
Tell me where in the world is Johan Bruyneel?

Steal their Seoul in South Korea, make Antarctica cry Uncle,
From the Red Sea to Greenland they'll be singing the blues,
Well they never Arkansas him steal the Mekong from the jungle,
Tell me where in the world is Johan Bruyneel?

He go from Nashville to Norway, Bonaire to Zimbabwe,
Chicago to Czechoslovakia and back!

Well he'll ransack ****stan and run a scam in Scandinavia,
Then he'll stick 'em up Down Under and go pick-pocket Perth,
He put the Miss in misdemeanor when he stole the beans from Lima,
Tell me where in the world is Johan Bruyneel?
Oh tell me where in the world is... Oh tell me where can he be?

Ooh, Botswana to Thailand, Milan via Amsterdam,
Mali to Bali, Ohio, Oahu...!

Well he glides around the globe and he'll flimflam every nation,
He's a double-dealing diva with a taste for thievery,
His itinerary's loaded up with moving violations,
Tell me where in the world is Johan Bruyneel?

:D

The better word, I think, is "nominally," rather than "legally." You and I probably suspect what the actual reality was, but with all the interviews, the feds probably have a really accurate picture of the actual reality of the team.

Bruyneel was fairly weak when it came to Armstrong.

Floyd had detailed this in the Kimmidge interview in regards to the "Simeoni incident".

- Landis told Kimmage that he was “extremely upset” by Armstrong’s victimization of Simeoni. He also claimed he had told US Postal Service directeur sportif Johan Bruyneel during that 18th stage that Armstrong looked “like an idiot”. -

However Bruyneel couldn't control Armstrong. Lance was team captain, owner and manager. He called the shots - he arranged the drugs, the program for the team.

Hopefully JB gave the Feds an accurate picture of who was ordering the drugs and how. My understanding was Armstrong was always the link to Ferrari not JB.

Well, Johann is probably happy he wasn't on the bus today: the driver managed to back the damned thing into a ditch and blocked everyone trying to get off Baldy.

Because things are so tight at the summit, all the team busses park about 8K down the climb, so when the RSNT bus backed into the roadside ditch trying to make a three-point turn, he ended up stuck, perpendicular to the road and blocking it.

Side note: saw Floyd on the climb today, looked a bit heavy, but also looked happy just riding up the switchbacks by himself. Saw him ride back down before the stage finished.

Maybe that was Hog's escape plan? He left the bus through a trap door in the bottle of the bus into the ditch and dug himself to Italy complete with white lunch bags?

and was Floyd riding his "clunker" ? ..:D

it must have been a fun day to be there... The bus debacle is about par for the course lately

Good news is Jens is having a lot of fun

Broken down bus? Wasn't that charade meant to be before the Baldy stage?

Believe me, it was stuck "whole hog". When we passed, they were trying to shove rocks under the rear wheels.

That had to be awesome: spend all day getting roasted and climbing eight zillion feet, only to get stuck in a bus-turned-fishbowl rather than a quick trip down to the hotel.

Was there anyone in the bus trying seek diplomatic immunity? perfect time for the Feds to come knocking.

They can't take a trick these guys... RadioShack might as well give up. If Jens couldn't push the bus out of the ditch there's no hope.

Nah. The Hog took the underground railroad to Mexico and was kidnapped by corrupt federales. They were about to cut off one of his ears to show that they were serious until one recognized him as a top customer.

As Frank abandons. He was talking about a Poduim at the Giro not realizing Frank had withdrawn from the race!

What IS the logic behind the 'broken down bus' ? I have seen this after a stage at another Tour (wont mention which one)....it was after the stage. BMC.

That's transfusion time. Floyd told the story that at USPS they would fake the bus has broken down and pump in the blood. The driver would pretend to look at the engine to keep a look out if anyone was coming. Much safer than a hotel room.

Oh my, some good chuckles this morning as I catch up on this thread! :D

I didn't think about the poor riders having to hang in the 'hung up bus' after the stage....that is pathetic. The "fishbowl" ---priceless...
good thing they get paid pretty well.

Cant' imagine Jens wants one more year of RSNT.

Then hog's post about Johan blabbering on about a 'podium' when Frank had abandoned :D....Frank must have been steaming and here is Johan talking about it's 'only a shoulder' and he can "still pedal" even though injured...Gawd you're right..

You can not make this stuff up.
