I just get PO'd that people know something, but what they know is meaningless without full and proper context.

Johan got served something. Could be anything. Perhaps even unrelated. If someone knows differently, then they should divulge.

"Sources say"... but are the sources just people who post on message boards?

Starting to wonder along the same lines. And if your quoted part (in bold) refers to Shane Stokes article on Velonation, that article says "source" - note the singular. (Maybe you are referring to a different article, if so, who was that by?)

Anybody have any additional info that is not of the hamburger type?

Wasn't me. I have never met or even talked with Shane. Maybe he got it off twitter? Isn't that where I get everything?

Probably nothing. Johan is just hiding in the bus because he doesn't want to get a sunburn

Lance was on the sauce.

You have to be reasonable. He was only handed a letter on Friday evening. The man himself probably hasn’t had an opportunity to discuss the implications with his own lawyers. You can’t expect full details before the very person involved has them. He has the right to seek legal advice. It is only Monday.

There is a process and it will be followed. But I’m sure Cal_Joe will give us some tweets from a fake twitter account to keep us going!

I didn;t mean you, RR. I believe your info (you're always right), but I do wonder if the press is perhaps spending too much time reading what WE have to say, rather than by using good 'ol fashined shoe-leather. Did Velonation really have a source, or did they have a few minutes on The Clinic.

When a persons "Friends" are actually just employees they tend to talk when they are treated like $hit. Even it they signed a piece of paper they get sick of watching the fraud

After a while, it must get pretty easy to narrow down the possible candidates.

But I know what you mean about treating the help badly. Loyalty costs.

It would be great if the media could actually be a Fourth Estate, but it cannot. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Fourth_Estate Until people funding cycling media wanted the doping exposed it's stuck pretending.

In this way, CN does the best job it can and should be commended. On the other end of the spectrum you've got VN spreading UCI propaganda rivaled only by the North Korean government's rhetoric.

Did not intend to imply that you were the source. I just thought it was unusual that the article seemed to rely on a single source, when most journalists try to get confirmation from at least one additional source.

As has been posted by others, additional information would be helpful.

Imagine there’s no doping
It’s easy if you try
Nothing to put in your body
But water and apple pie

Imagine all the riders
Racing a form of play…

Imagine there are no “doctors”
It’s not so hard to do
Nothing to inject or transfuse
No WADA too

Imagine all the riders
At their hotels in peace…

You may say I’m just a dreamer
But I’m not the only one
I hope some race you’ll join us
And bring back the fun.

Imagine there’s no cheating
I wonder if you can
No need for special treatment
All on a single plan

Imagine all the riders
Sharing all the road…

You may say I’m just a dreamer
But I’m not the only one
I hope some race you’ll join us
And bring back the fun.

Imagine there’s no money
Cause that’s the root of sin
Nothing but glory and passion
Let the better man win

Imagine all the riders
Happy with their best

You may say I’m just a dreamer
But dreaming’s the only way
To end this doping circus
And find a better day.

I think it is more likely that a decision was made to kill the criminal investigation and handle the situation civilly. With treble damages, there is $90 million to be recovered for the Postal Service.

A question I have is what happens to Michael Ball. He seems like low hanging fruit that would be easy to pick. Why let him off?

TexPat said:
He's the one ball left on the court.

Good point - of anyone Ball was in a very precarious position, just hanging there.
So perhaps the Feds put a squeeze on them and he was the first ball to drop.

I would suppose that Johan is in no position yet to make any sort of a 'statement' to the media. He must be on his phone quite a bit one would think.

Has he been seen in public outside of the bus and team car?
I don't follow Lance's twitter but surely he must be totally clammed up as well...

I don't think he has much to squeeze except for a low level supplier or two. He was blackballed by the sport before his team imploded. Blue balls got him in trouble with the INS. He has spent the last two years behind the eight ball.

Agreed.

Ball is small time. The local authorities can deal with him.

The Hog, The Weasel and the A-Man much bigger fish to fry up.

That syndicate was doin' some crazy deals.

It must be something of some portent, otherwise we would be seeing Johan front and center using the "casual dismissal" (in that arrogant Northern European "ach...ja" way that he has). The "casual dismissal" would have also worked if he had actually been in the know about being served at the airport. "ach ...ja, it was nothing! I actually arranged to meet with them at the airport so I could get this out of the way. I have a team to think about! Anyway, I'm not at liberty to discuss the details, but believe me, it was nothing. Next question..."

and the story changes again;

Armstrong also talks of wanting to win the Iron Man championship in the June edition of Men's Journal. And while he always has denied using PEDs he does confess to going on a bender in February, when federal prosecutors dropped an investigation of him that had lasted nearly two years.

"We just got (expletive) plastered," Armstrong says. "About five of my buddies came over, and we just sat there and got hammered. I don't even remember the night . . . Tequila. Shots. I don't even remember getting to bed. I was that kind of drunk."

To me it seemed like the absolute worst thing to do in a situation like this is to say, "no comment." The reason is because now you no longer own that conversation and a reporter can make his own conclusions. I decided to ask a public relations person who works for many professional athletes, including cyclists, for a professional opinion.

"It's all about public perception," my PR expert told me. "A ‘no comment' means you're guilty."

And that's what it's all about - public perception. At this point it looks like the RadioShack-Nissan management has something to hide. They should either cop to it and say something to the effect of, "Yes Johan was served and is cooperating fully" or go with John Travolta's lawyer style of full denial, "No, he wasn't served - it's a complete lie, we're suing everyone!"

Right now I assure you reporters are digging into this "no comment" and the truth will come out one way or another. My advice to Mr Bruyneel: just come out and state the truth. If you don't, it will come back to bite you in the ****.

Lest we be accused of being on "LA hate induced out-of-context quote wishful-thinking crack" again, here's some context.

As told to Men's Journal Armstrong states that after the announcement he got drunk with some bros (see the Hog's quote). After which Armstrong declares that "'Nothing will rattle me ever again'".

The the journalist from Men's Journal asks Armstrong if that includes the investigation by USADA:

"'I can give you an on-the-record answer or an off-the-record answer,' he says. 'My on-the-record answer is going to be boring.' OK, I say, let's try off the record. He asks me to turn off the tape recorder, and for the next 10 minutes, he gives the kind of answer you want Armstrong to give-reasoned, impassioned, defiant, a little bit cocky. In fact, it's the kind of answer you wish he would give to America, because it's the kind of answer that would make America go, 'OK, cool.'"

Then Armstrong gives the "In my mind" quote

That's a great point. The "if we say it's true, it's a story; if we say it's not true, it's a story, so we just will not comment" is complete and utter BS. If it's not true then all you have to say is "It's not true" and say what he did instead. You can even throw in that he was picked up from the airport in a Nissan Leaf. That's a hell of a lot easier than dealing with the inferences that can be drawn from a "no comment" statement.
