Jonas Vingegaard: Something is Rotten

Page 112 - Get up to date with the latest news, scores & standings from the Cycling News Community.
If nobody apart from a few clinic scholars and philosophers cared about the stage 16 time trial last year, then it will be similar if jonas Vingegard wins this year Le tour after spending April on hospital.

We can only count on the Pogacar fanboys to join us in our scholarly speculation if jonas wins again. But that is embarrassing, because they would want to pretend their gianetti prgidy is not suspicious and squeaky clean like a swiss watch
Rogal and Remco fanboys would also like to have a say.

Like Jeff Goldblum said in Park Jurassic 1.....

"Life always finds a way".

It describes very well doping in sport and those old characters.

I'll be honest here & say I'm starting to get some heebie-jeebies about Vingegaard with regards to his prospective Tour de France form in the event he takes part. I think some of us might have forgotten that ITT in last year's Tour a bit too quickly. It was so absurd, it defied all metrics & on paper was pretty much the craziest individual performance since the 1960's in terms of seconds gained per km. To quote Han Solo, "I have a bad feeling about this"
Same here. Based on last year's Vingegaard performance, I wouldn't be too surprised if he came back despite the injuries and blew the field apart. In the time trial + the decisive mountain stage, he was in another galaxy. So if plan A this year was to be two galaxies ahead, he should have some margin despite the injuries ...

Nevertheless, i think Vingegaard struggled a bit for some reason between the stage of Tourmalet and the stage of Joux plane, but suddenly, he turned into a alien in the final week.

He and the team looked beatable by UAE/Pogacar, then the third week happened and he flipped a switch.

Maybe he has a twin we don’t know about and they perform the swap successfully.

In Danish media, there's frequent talk of his seemingly unique third week stage race recovery. Reminds me of Armstrong's 2009 comeback blood tests, which - if I understood correctly - indicated that he got less tired, more fresh, as the Tour got harder and harder ...

100 % could simply mean fully recovered from his injuries, race ready and without pain. It doesn't have to mean that he's in the form of his life, at least as good as he was at the start of last year's Tour.

Within context I take Wielerflits meaning of "100%" as the definition provided by Plugge, Heijboer & Visma themselves, i.e. specifically when they say they won't take Vingegaard to the Tour unless he's "100%" & he can race for victory.

If he goes to the TdF there should be no ambiguity or backpaddling, i.e. Visma have stated he'll go to the Tour if he can win it. So as a spectator I'll take their word for it: if he's at the start, I'll assume he's in condition to win & yes, that means being at 100% (now whether he was at 110% in Combloux for example is another matter entirely). But one thing I don't expect (& this would be treating us like idiots) is for Vingegaard to arrive in Florence & Visma to start saying stuff like 'we'll hope for the best blablabla we have no expectations a stage win would be nice'.

Nah, I don't think so. If they send Vingegaard to the Tour de France, it's to win it. And based on the latest rumors & 'vibes', it seems increasingly likely he could very well be ready to achieve exactly that.

And my mind would be blown tbh.

Nah, I'd be stunned. Simply compare Vingegaard's injuries to what Pogacar had to contend with at LBL. A punctured lung and all the other complications is a little more serious than a broken wrist.

The latest "rumors & vibes" are Visma spin and PR. I would expect nothing less from them.

If I remember correctly isn’t that also when the needle mark appeared in his AC on the left arm I believe.
And yet the Danish media continue to ignore such matters and propagate far fetched fantasies to explain their hero. I still haven't forgiven them for claiming a 60kg skeleton rode the "best time trial in history"

And where are @GuntherL1 and @Ripper ? Pog glows in the dark but some posters only show up when their villain is doing well and look the other way with this guy.

Which ITT do you think is the best in history?

Actually he weighs even less in the Tour. 58 kg.

Indurain Luxembourg.

Here was the claim by Dumoulin.

It's not clear to me why it should be unforgivable to state that Combloux was better than Luxembourg. Of course, the two routes had very different length and vertical gain, but they seem quite comparable when it comes to obliterating the opposition.
Simply weight. Dumoulin should be embarrassed to claim his 58kg teammate bettered the absolute level of Indurain during the EPO era. Does he think people don't know or have forgotten? You could argue it is what we define as "best". Luxembourg was the day Big Mig was famously labeled "extraterrestrial". So what do we call Vingegaard after Combloux?

Weightism, fatshaming, Vingegaard‘s performance has to be discounted because he‘s lightweight? Can Remco do a good time trial or is he too small?

If you read his threads, I think you'll find people have used a lot of demeaning names to describe him. Even his biggest fan on here has just called him offensive in a post (although he probably didn't meant it that way).

He didn't mean it that way. Offensive as in attacking. But I am sure you are right about others using demeaning names. I only pick on Vingegaard for the lack of balance of some posters compared to Pog.

(I knew what he meant)

I still think what Vingegaard's getting in his road thread is worse than what Pog's getting in his. At the moment it's obviously worse for Pog in the clinic, but that is only natural. Vingegaard has never humiliated everyone for 3 weeks straight in a GT. He could of course very well have done that in the last two Tours if Pogačar hadn't been around, but we may never actually get to see it.
