Teams & Riders Jonas Vingegaard thread: Love in Iberia

The sport needs a strong Jonas Vingegaard at the TDF, otherwise it'll be a long 3 weeks.
Biggest question for me is Vingegaard's mind not his body. His body overcame much worse last year. I think he will be fine.

Everyone was looking forward to the rematch of the century. I hope he recovers quickly so can be competitive at the Dauphiné, then its game on at the Tdf.

He missed 9 days of training, but he is feeling better now.

I think the best plan now would be:

April altitude training camp
LBL
Tour Romandie
May altitude training camp
Dauphiné
Tignes altitude training camp
Tour France
training camp before the Vuelta
Vuelta

LBL? Doesn't seem likely too me.

Was he always planning on doing an altitude camp in April? If not I doubt they’ll add it now

I don't think I've ever looked forward to the Dauphine as much as I do this year. One week of Pogacar vs Vingegaard without super high stakes followed by almost a month of overanalizing what it all means for the Tour. This is gonna make the old Froome vs Contador Dauphines look like it's Michael Woods vs Cristian Rodriguez the Route d'Occitanie. Can't wait!

Nowadays, riders don't need racing days as much as they needed 30 years ago. They can get in shape really fast and almost simulate in training what they do in racing.
I still think Vingegaard should race a minor race in April (Giro del Trentino) to not be 3 months without competition. There are some things you don't gain in training and he really needs them. I'm not talking about physical aspects of cycling, I'm talking about riding in a bunch, descending in the front, stay with your team in the front. All these things, Vingegaard needs to regain again. He is lacking confidence and PN didn't help him to regain his former confidence.

I'll take pogi 99 times in a hundred when it comes to one weeks. It's going to be doom and gloom.

You overanalysing after Dauphiné? Surely that has never happened before ;)

He had a concussion after all. But why his team don't say what he has and wait almost 2 weeks to give us an explanation?

Bc it's a bad look on Visma. I'm sure Visma would have liked to keep it away from public.

That being said - This is not a good news. Even small concussion can come back if you push it. I'm not a doctor but concussion and altitude also don't sound healthy

He says that he was first on his bike again Thursday (March 20), 6 days after his DNS. Maassen said Sunday that he had missed 9 days of training, so practically saying that he hadn't begun proper training again at that point. They spoke together Friday.

By what Maassen said, it sounds like the team hopes that he will ride Itzulia. The race starts in two weeks with an ITT.
